Definitely have in the past, but companies are starting to realize there's a lot of women skiers out there, and our center of gravity and style of skiing is a bit different. 4FRNT is actually trying some new things out with that concept, and plus a lot of women who ski aren't 5'7" like myself, so mens skis usually aren't on option because they're too long.

I had some mai tais but traided them to a girl on NS. You could ask her how they ski, i forget her name though, shes in my friends i think.

okay so for a legit response to this thread. I'm currently skiing on 177 volkl bridges (from 2 seasons ago) and 179 k2 kung fujas. I think that the number one thing that I would like to see in a women's ski is longer lengths. I'm 5'11, and pretty much all women's skis aren't long enough for me. But at the same time I realize that not a lot of girls that ski are my height and thus there isn't much of a demand for longer lengths. Also maybe a little more aggressive skis too. I haven't been on a woman's ski in a while but last time I was it was somewhat pathetic.

Skichicky, I definitely feel your pain. I barely make the cut for women's skis, and yes they're usually pretty pathetic. Longer lengths is definitely something i'm trying to push because there are literally no companies that make a 177 or higher in a womens ski, and that's actually not too crazy of a length! 4FRNT is coming out with a women's ski next year that's definitely got some girth, and i'm trying to push some longer lengths, so definitely check back in!

Well I've been creeping your profile as well and not to get mega creeper on you, but I just a Bird pass for the first time this year and I hope to be there and at Alta a fair amount through out season. If you ever want to take come runs, hit me up! As for the thread topic, while I'm obviously not a chick, I do have some input for you in relation to women's skis.

I know and ski with a few different girls who are quite talented, some who ride park/pipe, some big mountain and some all mountain cruisers. All of them have had a similar take on the current state of female specific skis: they are too girly.

For starters, all of them have told me that the graphics of womans skis are too frilly and cute. I understand that companies want to make graphics that are unique to their female product line, but it seems that often times they create graphics that are associated with girly things, and not necessarily something that girls actually like.

As far as performance, it seems that companies need to stop wussing out when they create a female specific model. I understand that not all girls beat up their skis and ride a lot of days each season at a high level, but it seems that many ski manufacturers have forgotten that there are actually girls out there who rip and can give a lot of the guys a run for their money. A few years ago my Mom purchased some ladies skis from Dynastar that came highly recommended to her and she wound up settling on them after doing a good bit of research and comparing. Once she got on the hill, she realized that the ski was too soft, damp and girly for her to be able to ski how she wanted, and she wound up switching to a guys ski. Another girl who is a good friend and a serious big mountain shredder had a pair of Line Pandora's, but sold them in favor of Seth's because they couldn't perform how she needed them to.

Having shorter lengths, different sidecuts, different dimensions, different mounting points etc. makes sense, but making a girls ski for women, doesn't. I am excited to see what 4FRNT comes up with, they seem like they are usually pretty on point when it comes to new ideas and developing products.

Sweet thank Jibjib, that's a great point about the graphics. And you're right, companies just need to go for it and make a womens ski that's burly. Definitely check back in with 4FRNT. The new Renegade and the YLE (wiley miller's pro model) are insane! So ahead of the game, it's awesome. Come in to the shop sometime too. 4FRNT is on 2900 South and West Temple. Anyone there would love to talk to you some more and we're always stoked to get locals in

No worries! I've heard good things about the Renegade and that's sick that Wiley is getting a pro model! Dude definitely deserves it, I can't wait to see what the ski is like. I'll have to stop in sometime, I honestly don't know why I haven't before.

I feel like most of the women's skis out there are park skis....
I like going all over the mtn, ski mostly big mtn stuff, and definitely prefer a fatter ski. with some sort of rocker. Right now i have 182 VCT's and 172 Line Pandoras, both of which I love on the right days.

Honestly the Pan's are my go-to ski, but I feel like, since they have the early rise in the tip, they ski pretty short. So i really wish they just came in longer lengths (I'm thinking 182 Sir Francis Bacon's or something of the like for next season...)
My ski purchases from meow on will likely be in the 180+ range, which, as you have said, will likely subject me to 'dude'/'unisex'/whatever skis. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I honestly see little reason to even have gender-specific skis.

ps ALTA IS SO SICK

Damn VinnieF, blowin' up my game left and right. Seriously though, I keep hearing from friends that the store is sick and I should check it out. If it so happens that there is an attractive female that excels at skiing who works there, well then I guess it's even more imperative I pay 4FRNT headquarters a visit.

Well, I've got Nordica Mints right now but I believe I'm going to purchase Mai Tais for this season. My cousin is Meg Olenick and I asked her if she had any thoughts on them or if there's another ski she would recommend. She said "i think those are some of the best girls skis out there and you should defiantly look into those. Not many other companies make very good girl skis so i would say that the mai tai is your best bet."

I think with graphics you have to take into account that the girls that are really in to skiing aren't the girly-girls. When daddy's buying his daughter skis for their annual vacation super-girly is perfect. My cousin got these things that were sparkly and absolutely revolting but she loves them. But for the higher end models forget it. I'm on the Roxy Black Magic (which I believe is the Dynastar Big Trouble with a girly topsheet) and they're great skis but it took a lot of convincing on the shop worker's part to get me to look past the brand name as well as the skulls and flowers on them (and they're black at least).

I really like the looks of the Moment Pika and S110W and would love the chance to test them out, but I feel like a lot of the time when buying the top women's ski you're paying for more than you are getting.

I ski a 192 Atomic Atlas and 185 Atomic Blog.

Used to race alpine and ski cross, I'm also 5'8"... Most of the girls I ski with around here at Whistler ski a 180+ ski.

you don't ski park with those do you? I'm on 189's and am 6'3 and I feel they can be a bit on the long side for some park stuff.. but for charging not quite long enough.  I did ski a 205 straight ski for a season when I was shit poor and actually really enjoyed it

Got a friend who got Rossi Voodoo BC110, she's fairly aggressive and loves these things!  They are girl specific and are loosely based off the Men's Rossi S7

longer skis for ladies would be nice. I'm 5'11" and I feel like its rare to see long skis. This year is actually the first year I've been on chick skis. I have the 176 salomon mai tais for park and some K2 Nancys for the mountain and pow (I think 178). Then on real deep pow days I bust out some men's scratch steeze which are a little longer and fatter. I don't have any complaints about the girls skis. The mai tais are light, have a great pop, and are super fun in the park. I dont think I could find a better park ski for me

In an ideal world yeh that would be cool, but the market for long and stiff women specific skis is so small that surely it wouldn't make economic sense..? Although I have very little knowledge of costs etc over short production runs..
Also, I may be missing something but so called 'mens' skis aren't necessarily marketed as mens skis? Aren't there just skis; and women specific skis.. Do you girls have problems skiing with 'mens' skis? Or is it simply about graphics. Just wondering.

I don't have any issue with skiing men's skis, and honestly I could care less about the graphics because usually they are covered in snow most of the time anyways. If I cared, I wouldn't be skiing on Kung Fujas. I think it would be cool to have a more aggressive women's ski that is made in longer lengths out on the market though, as some women's specific skis are adapted to a women's center of gravity.
In short, no its not about the graphics. I could care less if I'm on a men's ski or not, because I have been skiing on men's skis since I was 13.
