Holy fuck that HP looks baller. I have an HP, and I've been pretty happy with it, no complaints. I'd go with that, but I also don't really like macs that much.

I bought a macbook pro 13 inch a few months ago. it's the best investment of my life. It just works flawlessly and feels indestructable, don't waste your money on something that will likely get virus' and crash in a couple years, get the macbook pro, trust me on this.

Not taking sides because both have pros and cons. but honestly, you have to suck cocks to get viruses. Numerous free programs that will take care of all your virus problems. So that's really a dumb argument. There are plenty of reasons to choose the mac. This is not one of them.

Anyone who uses their computer for school work and browsing the internet and swears by their mac as the best computer out is being completely dominated by advertising.

I bough my PC 2 years ago for $300 and it is still goin. Sure have done a system recovery on it, but if you back your shit up that's not a big deal and it's nice to start fresh. I also have since put windows 7 on it and it runs that just fine. The only actual argument people have come across to prove to me that they need macs is because of a specific software (generally for editing) that they use and can only be used on macs.

Of course if you have the extra money and want a mac then go for it, it's not like need is the only reason people buy things.

The difference: windows has much better security but more attackers Mac has shitty security but much less attackers. Ends up with windows being slightly more at risk just because the sheer amount of malicious software targeted at it compared to mac but it's not enough of a risk to make it factor into buying one over the other.

if you're gonna go PC get an asus .

if I were trolling i'd go something like this:

it's pathetic kids spend at least $1,000 on electronics, especially in the beginning of winter.

$1000 (for base level macbook) is easily a new pair of skis/bindings OR a seasons pass to most areas

I don't know about you, but the choice is easy.

Yup. You can put together a pc that blows a mac out of the water for the same price and there are plenty you can buy at the same price that are comparable. And as far as operating systems go: "If you want to stay with the familiar and comfortable pitfalls that you're accustomed to, use Windows. Or, to really dumb down your computing environment, you can pay the extra money for Apple products. You can also choose to suffer a little pain, make a few exceptions, use Linux to power your desktops and servers and experience a new level of computing freedom." olol

i like to make the comparision of Mac and PC's to that of bikes.

the mac is your tricycle. really stable, easy to use, most likely wont get to hurt on it. It gets the job done and will last awhile.

however, when you take the training wheels off you have a PC. Sure, its riskier, but its faster and more fun and can do more.

granted, it comes down to what you really want/need a computer for. if you plan on doing artsy shit, but no gaming or anything else get the mac.
if you want something that can do it all but with that risk factor get the PC.

ive always used a pc until this summer when i got a mac book pro for college. i love it and i would never go back to a pc. and it is pretty much indestructible. i had my mbp in my loft watching a movie one night and i passed out with it on the edge of my bed...middle of the night it fell out of my loft 8ft onto the a tile floor. still works like charm and not even a scratch.

Mac's are great computers and you probably won't experience too many problems.

If you wanna go the PC route get a Dell Latitude. I've had an E6500 for 3 years now and have not had a single problem. I have an antivirus i got through my school for free run every week and it rarely picks anything up. after 3 years by battery still runs 5-7 hours on a single charge (I upgraded). It all depends what you're going to use it for.

I have the mac book pro 13 inch and it slays.
It runs Starcraft 2, Photoshop 5, Light Room, Steam, Final Cut, and Microsoft office perfectly.

If you are going for a laptop Macs really are the most powerful, long lasting, reliable computers.
And lets consider your options, I am guessing you are familiar with Windows XP, if you get a new laptop odds are it will run windows 7, which lets be honest really looks like a pain in the ass. So if your are upgrading operating systems any way you might as well just make the conversion over the Mac, which seems to be much more user friendly.

macs are more expensive and i realize that there are people out there that take constant care of their pc's and keep them running for ever, but every time i have bought a pc laptop after about it year it is basically unusable. i have a mac now and it runs the same it did when i got, and will probably last for a long time still.

    thanks man, i havent tried it yet, but i cant wait. i was looking at hp's, and they were getting expensive too. i guess it really depends on what you are going to use it for, the brand name, and how much you want to spend.

    p.s. you can also get the toshiba in white to make it look ilike a mac, lmao.

    a lot of pc notebooks overheat and become throw-aways. Especially when they have to pay $73 for a new heatsink assembly 14 months after they bought the notebook and pay $95/hr labor.

    pc notebooks are just poorly designed and bulky most of the time. go hold your $600 15" pc notebook and a 15" macbook pro and tell me what one you would rather take home.

    its not just the hardware. its the operating system, the experience, the usability and reliability. this is what makes a macbook pro a $1700 notebook (MSRP).

    Find me a similar notebook to a macbook 13" air please...

    I am looking for a 13" notebook similar in size, nvidia 320m video card, SSD drive, core 2 duo processor.......

    I think someone found a Sony or Lenovo they could spec similar to a Macbook Air and it came out to $1500-1700 if I recall.

    Your 15" 630 notebook will also sell for $210 in 2 years time because it will have multiple problems that will be neglected until the notebook is damn near useless, and no one but people on craigslist will buy it. so you have lost half your investment.

    meanwhile you can buy a macbook pro 15" for $1080 plus s/h from me and own it with a warranty for a while, than sell it 3 years from now for $650........

    Thats kind of how it works with Macbooks....

    You can spend $730 on a Macbook right now (2010 model w/ warranty) and it will resell in 3 years time for $500 stillllllllllllllllllllllll..........


    I like to compare Apple's to foreign vehicles in the sense that they have typically depreciated in value less over time, and owners tend to be more happy with their vehicles overall.

    This isn't just a computer, its a computer experience. Apple's make sense, not just for yourself but like it has been mentioned, your parents, and your grandparents and so on. No viruses, and very intuitive interface.

    i know you know what you're talking about here, i agree with your the majority of your post concerning resale value/construction/overheating of plastic PCs.

    But, Mac OS X is over-rated for an 'intuitive interface'

    example: resizing windows in only one corner...um wtf?

    Also, it really depends on the user. I've seen some cluttered-ass mac docks/desktops that look no better than the run-of-the mill XP machine with icons/files everywhere...sooo annoying

    On my windows 7, I have a very similar mac dock, no icons on desktop, and I hide my start bar. soooo clean. (given this did take some configuration time on my part)

    Also, macs ship with Safari. This may be an even shittier browser than IE simply for compatibility with some online apps

    As for viruses, you can still get your identity stolen on a mac. Yes, they don't get the usual viruses.

    Just because they have the same stats doesn't mean they are the same, Period. 75% of the reason i use macs are for the operating system and software. It also helps that mac last at least 2-3 times longer than a windows laptop.
