How best to export Gopro footy from iMovie for web viewing?

DISCLAIMER: I know that iMovie sucks. I know that I have basically zero talent for editing. That said, read on.

I'm trying to find out a bit more about what export settings work best for Gopro footy (960p, 30fps) piped through iMovie. All the web vids I've created certainly lose a bit of quality, and it seems dumb to have a cam with such acuity only to lose it when it goes online.

Any good solutions?

well i dont know if this will work for you

but when i edited in imovie with my t2i footage, i had problems exporting as well. when i exported in full quality, it looked great, but wouldnt upload to vimeo.

so what i did was exported in full or original quality, then downloaded mpeg streamclip, and converted it from the .mov to an mp4 file. it didnt lose quality at all. then upload to vimeo. that seemed to work best for me.

I use final cut but there's this long process you can choose to do rather than straight up exporting so that way you get better quality. You'll prob find something on it if you check youtube or google

Not sure what iMovie you're using, i use iMovie HD, GoPro on 720p, 60fps.
When exporting i go

expert settings -> share -> options -> settings
In settings choose compression type h.264, then under data rate, click restrict to....then type 5000
exit settings, back to options and click size then HD 1280 x 720, 16:9 and also tick the box 'deinterlace'

that gives decent HD quality at a small enough file size to upload to vimeo/newschoolers etc.

hope that helps, difficult to give instructions without visuals
if not, just youtube imovie HD exporting, thats how i figured it out.

Go to your toolbar click /Export/Share on YouTube When it asks you what formatting you want it as, select apple tv. Also, iMovie isn't that bad. Certainly not as good as FCP, but I've seen some sick videos made in widows movie maker, and IMovie is better than that.
