i will be getting one when i get my license. most likely an 08, and been in a previous accident and is in need of a repair.  This is because you can get the car 4x cheaper, and repairing it wont cost much(of course, depending on extend of damage and where. i'll only get it if its hit from behind or side.)

Anyone here have one, or knows anyone with one?  I'd like to know what you think of the car and if you've driven one before or not and how it drives.

As I said in one of my earlier posts, I have no problem with his parents buying him a nice car.  My parents bought me my first car too.  The problem IMO is his attitude about it all.  Saying that people who are not as well off as him should get over it is pretty arrogant and makes it seem like he thinks he is better than people who don't have as much money.

People are inclined to purchase nice cars if they have the money.

But to come on NS and disguise your bragging as a "i need advice on which car to get" thread then it is slightly annoying.

Especially when he tells each person off on there response. And doesnt take any advice unless they agreed that the 1 series was good.

And when he said. "im not trying to be a conceding rich person" i have money im going to get what i want, and to bad for you. He was being a rish spoiled kid in this case.

If somebody wants advice then need to take the advice, ignore the negative comments.

I also hate none humble rich people. If you have money show that you have some class. You are fortunate and privileged, take it to heart and give some respect.

yeah rereading this whole thread i definitely agree with you guys, his tone is pretty annoying and conceited.

i mean this does bring up a good point about what you should and shouldn't say. he just need to be a little more sensitive when making comments like he did

I don't have any issue with parents buying nice shit for their children. Like I said before, Its their job to provide things for their kids. Hell, My parents buy me cool stuff too and I am more than thankful for that. They bust their asses day in and day out just to let me ski 2 to 4 times a week and I am more than grateful for what they do to make me happy. But when you talk down to people less fortunate and act like you are better than them because you have more money then them, You just sound like a spoiled douchebag that won't earn any respect from other people for out of line comments like his.

NO. therefor, i am not bragging about it. people who brag about it are the ones making threads saying "yo check out my new subi yo! its soo sick even goes up the mountain. check out my mods yo". theres a difference between asking if anyone here has driven the car or not. and so all of you people on here still talking shit, i test drove a 2010 today. but OBVIOUSLY you dont want to hear what i have to say about it.

the comment that half of you quoted about being privileged, let me tell you that im not rich, just some of you are too retarded to realize that theres no point in spending 10k on a crap car and then two years later spend another 15k on another one, when id be getting this car with no intention at all to sell it.

and what posts that ive made here are talking about how rich i am? im not bragging at all. theres a difference between bragging and defending my statements. 

now, for all of you saying how this car is shit, lets compare stats:

135i:

engine:
Liter/type/valves per cylinder : TwinPower Turbo 3.0/inline 6/4
Max. torque hp/rpm : 300/1200-5000

performance:
top speed : 149mph
acceleration(0-60) : 5.0 seconds

MPG : 20/28

335i:

MPG:17/26

in translation, the 1 series is essentially a cheaper, lighter, and faster version of the 3 series, which happens to be 2 door.


and for those saying repairs are going to be very expensive, i agree to a point. BMW parts are expensive, but i will not be buying a car with extreme damage. so chill. a rear ended car might just need a new bumper, and side fender, and possibly the trunk.  Keep in mind that everything bought for the car is at the garages discount for us.  As for the paint job, it was on my brothers former tsx, and it was professionally done.

Been like I am getting a car soon. My dad is willing to spend this much on me. Yes it is alot but i am lucky and fortunate enough to have this opportunity and we enjoy have nice cars.

People would still hate. This is NS you it doesnt function without hate.

You obviously have some money in your family. Doesnt mean you are a bad person for wanting to spend that money. You have just been coming across as an ignorant spoiled kid.


Now about that car.

I just dont like BMW. its my personal preference. Now i think you are hurting yourself by restricting you decisions. Thinking that if its not luxury its not good quality. You can get good quality out of none luxury cars. And many luxury cars are crap.

If you are looking at cars, try cruising lots and being open to any car or brand. Check them all out. then go home and do some research on the ones that you found you liked. If you already have a broad knowledge on cars then you probably have an idea of which cars are worth looking at. But try not to restrict yourself.

Also do you really need the nicest fastest car out there? Especially if you are just getting your license? Maybe try and find a car you like that you could mod in ways that improve and customize it to fit your needs.

My bro's 91' GTI (turboed g60 engine swap) lowered and fitted with winter racing tires kills pulls double duty. He plows his street and still drives faster and with more control than most dudes with trucks. That being said, just just blew his turbo (might fix it) and picked up a A4 wagon.

Go with a used m3, look for something sub 60k miles and if you like the e36 body style i picked up my s52/e36 for 11k with 38k miles on it. Its been a dream after redoing the suspension and and the new motor/transmission.

I assure you is not a hipster. He does, however, like being able to pull an engine out of one car and put it into another in his own garage without having to plug in a computer, and still manage to get a 230 hp car that weighs next to nothing. He's a VW man and will never own a BMW, hence the Audi.

whats with everyone hating on the 1 series? Its easily the best performing and most driver oriented car thats not an M that they have made in a long time. and easily a better car than a 325xi, first of all the xi is AWD, because of that its handling suffers, and its not as as well balanced. plus the 1 series out performs it in pretty much every catagory.

and BMW IS going back to their old ways with the 1. smaller, lighter, more performance and driver oriented cars. rather than the 4000lb numb as shit boats they and most other car manufacturers have been putting out, that people buy for the image because they dont know what the fuck a good sports car is. IMO its one of the only newer BMW's id consider buying. most other models have just lost touch with what BMW used to be all about.

that being said. the 1 is still no e30. e30's will always be the best.

not necessarily, you can add a turbo to a g60. it is called "twin charging" and it has been done before.  would not recommend though.

lololololol at people suggesting e46 m3's- unless you plan on spending upwards of 10k on a hpf turbo I wouldnt even think twice about one


if you are going to go bimmer- e30 m3, e36 m3- e38 5 series, jesus anything but an e46- the farthest bmw has gotten from making a good performing m except for the stupid M suv's

my advice- buy an e36 m- supersprint headers and exhaust, fluid motor union ITB's- and you will have a a decently fast car thats sounds like a fucking 90s F1 car

If you're getting a 1 because you think it's fast, it's not. It has a tiny engine and the only benefit is that it's light, which makes them drive sort of like go-carts.

If you're getting a 1 because it's a BMW and you think it's a status thing, well...it's the lowest end BMW and not much BMW status there.

That being said, it's a great car...a really good daily driver, but your money could be spend better elsewhere. You can get a 4wd WRX and do some work to the engine and have a nice, cheapish, fast car that will take you up to the mountain in any condition. I'd say go for a e36 M3, but they aren't the nicest driving to the mountain (the tires turn to concrete and rear wheel drive only gets you so far), plus your insurance will go through the roof.

If you're gonna go for it, pick up some an extra set of non-chinsey rims and throw some snow tires on them. Since you're on NS I'll assume that you live in a snowy area and you'll use them. Anyway, the 1 is a good car, not the best bang for the buck, but a good car that will be reliable and you can take anywhere. Go for manual over automatic any day.

listen, you dont want to waste several thousand dollars of your parents money on a peice of shit that has been in a serious accident. you might look at the car and think to yourself "oh, its just body damage" but really theres alot more than that. the frame is probably tweaked, the suspension may or may not be ruined, and no matter how hard you try, no matter how much time, effort, money or labor you throw at that car, you will NEVER get it to look exactly as it did from the factory (i fucking promise) and you will NEVER get the same ride quality, handling, or feel of the car. you will be forever plagued by excess road noise and little things continuously breaking on your car.

do yourself a favor and get daddy to buy you a used STI like all the other kids on this site. at least it will be  cheaper and easier to work on than the bimmer when you inevitably crash it in your high-school parking lot and do alot better in the snow than that RWD piece of shit you want so bad. it will look better with a ski rack too.

plenty of things! its huge, heavy as balls, over 3700 lbs. numb steering feel compared to the e30 and e36 m3, they make it in an auto, and its a fucking v8, twice the size of the real m3, the e30 m3. its lost all of the raw, lightweight, nimble characteristics that the m3 used to have. i guess id probably take it over an e46, cause i really did not like how the e46 drove.

if i wanted some heavy as fuck v8, id buy a mustang, if i wanted a luxury car, id buy a mercedes. the m3 has lost it, i hate even calling it an m3 anymore.
