BMW 1 Series

i will be getting one when i get my license. most likely an 08, and been in a previous accident and is in need of a repair.  This is because you can get the car 4x cheaper, and repairing it wont cost much(of course, depending on extend of damage and where. i'll only get it if its hit from behind or side.)

Anyone here have one, or knows anyone with one?  I'd like to know what you think of the car and if you've driven one before or not and how it drives.

you didnt buy your first car so suck my dick. my brother crashed his car, and insurance gave us 18k for it, and thats going towards my car. they gave us 18k but we only payed 10k for it. so shush. an 08 1 series in accident at auction in april will go for 10k at most too. so dont speak if you dont know much about prices

10K and EASILY another 10K to repair...if not more. Body work on an 08 BMW? You'll put 30K in to that car before you are done.

nah. we get our cars done through a family friend who has his own garage.

im not speaking major damage here. my brothers car was in an accident when we got it(07 acura tsx). we got it for 10k, and payed 4k for the repair & new paint job. the back was hit and it didnt turn out too much.

yes bmws are expensive to repair, but my dad drives a 5 series, and we know a guy who got rear ended in a 550i and only payed 5k for the repair with our friends garage.

i wouldnt buy a car that has been in an accident. to many variables (ie. bent frame, suspension, etc). you can find some sweet rides for 18k, either used, or brand new

it's ok though. i have a car of my own that i paid for, pay for insurance, and pay for gas and repairs ('97 Buick) but i drive my dad's mustang at every opportunity. there's no shame in driving a car that your parents bought you, or that is your parents'.

an a3 is my "backup" haha. good looks. germans make the best cars in my opinion. if at the time of buying, the 1 series is too much or just doesnt work out, ill most likely be getting an a3 or a5. put some nice rotiforms on it and lower it a couple inches and POW!

Haha the first car I owned was a $1600 toyota peice of shit that I paid every cent of. The next car I'm getting will also be paid for by yours truely and is looking a lot nicer than what I had previously.

But yes I was incorrect. I should have said, thanks daddy for paying for your brothers car which was crashed, resulting in a hefty insurance pay out, which is, in turn paying for your shiny new BMW that's been hooked up by daddys business connections.

but seriously, the 1 series. IMO you are trying to hard if you buy that thing, its one of those situations where i wanna look cool in a german car, but its just not working.

That car isn't worth the money even in good condition, buying one wrecked is likeflipping a coin to see how crappy of a product you will end up with in the end.  You could buy a brand new Honda Accord for a little more than that $18k and it would be a much much nicer and reliable vehicle.  It would also likely move faster....

Just because it says "BMW" doesn't mean it is a top of the line car.  After several years in Germany I started realizing that some people are just paying for the label with those cars, not all of them are as impressive as you would think.  Be more mature about this car purchase even if the money isn't coming out of your pocket.  No car looks cool in the shop, which is where our cheaper BMW's spent a lot of time in Germany.

if your gonna drop 10k on a 1 series then I'd at least consider 03-06 M3 that's an repair.

boom 15k and hit in the back, however I don't know how much good that does you because these are RWD.

Im pretty sure every person that drives a bmw is thinking wow i have money i think i will buy a nice car, i dont know anything about cars, but BMW is obviously the best, and people will think im cool an rich if i drive one.

Sorry but everybody sucks BMW's dick, and they really are not that great, much better vehicles to spend you money on. They are not terrible, just overrated and their interiors are very outdated.

I think of the 1 Series as a poor mans BMW. Also, that's a car I would buy my girl. I am not sure why you feel the need to come on to NS and get approval to buy a car, OH, unless you are trying to make a "claim". If you have a friend that can fix cars and give you deals, why do you need to come on here to ask? Would you trust a NS'er over your fathers friend that owns a shop? The 1 series did come from Europe, BMW tried to take the car which in Europe is a hatchback and make is more "American" friendly and make it a four seat non hatchback car, more of a coupe.

Holy shit... this thread is a clusterfuck (though highly entertaining).

OP, if I were you I would be hesitant. The only way I'd be going through with it is if it has a rigorous inspection, and if there was NOTHING STRUCTURALLY WRONG with the car. If there is, don't buy.

I can assume that it is a 128i. I have had a few of those as loaner cars. Decently quick and well handling (I said decently, compared to 90% of what else is out on the market). Interior, fit+finish, overall quality is average for bmw (yet saying that, they're still ahead of much else out there).
Prepare to pay a premium for parts, service, and labor (which should go without saying). Sometimes my family's e46 would go into the shop and need $1000 plus of preventative parts/replacements etc. and I don't think you'll be DIY-ing this car.

Anyway, when it comes back to your initial question... I wouldn't buy it. Too many variables for disaster. For that price range, there is SO much else out there. Amazing cars. Check forum sale sections, and other sales mediums. bimmerforums, vwvortex, teamspeed etc are usually good places to start out from.

You can get a lot more car for your money.
