America vs. the world (rant)

if you didnt get to see the NS movement in the US ten years ago, you missed out. skiers werent allowed in the park and moguls skiing and aerials were the only acceptable methods of freestyle skiing (FIS). real freestyle skiing was actually prohibited and frowned upon. more rules from the old country, Europe had created this standard for skiing, until America broke away from their terrible shackles once again with the invention of the snowboard. The light of freedom shined again and the US was once again setting standards and doing things that were actually cool.

Now it seems we've lost our grip on things. The same things that used to make skiing stupid are returning, and it stems from Europe. In America we want style, and freedom, and pure shred. Europe wants aerials,  with no style, and someday they will issue an FIS sanctioned trick list barring any deviation from what they think proper style is. this will prove itself in the coming months of halfpipe competition skiing and the never ending road to the olympics.

lets keep america freestyle, and euro ______ the gapers.

yup, skiing can only go in one direction. skiing is just comps- that's all. since nothing else exists in skiing, we should all act like little whiny cunts and complain about how comps. are judged because if we don't, the whole sport of skiing is ruined.

understanding this complex thought is more than you can handle. the rant has nothing to do with competition, the kos or you, and the fact that you will never grasp freestyle skiing to the point that this conversation is directed at.

I just wanna say it's nothing to do with where you're from and shit... There's a reason for it being called freestyle but I'm not even gonna go into it having seen how fucking ignorant you are. If you think America's better than Europe good for you but rant about it somewhere else because your thread is pretty fucking pointless. At the end of the day you get no info out of people's replies and apart from basically telling the world you're on your period and you wanna rant about things that don't really concern you or any of us you aren't giving anyone else any info. Oh yes, freeskiing is a completely American movement. No Canadians, Swedes, French, Swiss, Austrians were ever involved, they just totally hopped on the bandwagon after it was popular, right? Bahaha.

I would agree.  I would suggest that those 1/5 are below the age 5 though.  Honestly, how could anyone actually come up with a stat like that?  I'm sure there are Canadian morons too, but if you want to really start another pissing contest in which no one can give any real data then have at it.  Don't be a moron, this isn't going to do any good.

I doubt 20% of your population of 350+ million is under the age of 5 though. I come across Americans all the time who have no clue as to basic geography, or country locations. It doesnt surprise me at all that this navel gazing "our shit don't stink and we're better than everyone else" gets perpetuated by a few morons that leads to this stereotype. I come across Canucks all the time who don't know basic geography outside of North America, either... So it's more of an intercultural retardedness we have going on here... We still have very closeminded worldviews at this point - inexcusable in this modern age of the internet, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure there are plenty of French folks, and people from other European countries who don't know jack shit about the world either... It seems like only the more intelligent Europeans tend to travel outside of Europe anyways... (Least that's what I see)




ANYWAYS - For the OP...

Shut the fuck up...

Dont turn this into an America vs Everyone else situation... Europeans have been at the forefront of this whole freestyle movement too... at this point, I personally dont care about the direction of our sport. It's fun as fuck and it will continue to be. We went through our Renaissance over the last 10 years... and caught up, and in some ways surpassed what took snowboarding over twice as long to do... We took over the industry, and we changed the world of our sport for the better... and it will only continue to get better, and more fun from here on out...

I'm holding out a positive view for our sport right now. We will make the olympics now, and get more exposure. More people will get into skiing. More skis will be sold. Will it benefit the big companies more? Sure... but they already have too large of a lead to catch up to for the smaller companies... Who cares though... even the big companies aren't fucking Enron here... k2 makes fun things. Salomon makes fun things. all these companies make fun things. Lets enjoy it.


That said... the day Nike starts making ski boots (or buys out a brand), I will punch someone in the face...

snowboard+twin tips= invented in america by americans. and developed in "north america"
the terrain park was also pioneered in america, several years seperate north america from the rest when it comes to NS.

candide =pole plants= not NS.

we in america dont care where countries are located in europe. ive traveled the world, and if you asked anyone in the world where a certain state was located in america they wouldnt know.  90% of the world thinks new york city is the state of new york.
