We've got a problem.. And its a ski shop

Okay so here's the story: I brought in my skis last week tuesday along with 2 of my friends to be remounted, sharpened, tuned, waxed.. You get the point I needed a remount was the important part. This guy tells me he'd finish them by Friday or Saturday. He doesn't have them done.. I don't need them yet so no big.. Yesterday (wednesday) my 2 friends went and picked theirs up and brought them home. Upon further review however, one friends skis have been mounted at 0 and +2. Yeahhh one is mounted different than the other.. The other friend has a lobsided mount and the screw hole previously used haven't been filled.. Mine I have not picked up yet but I have been told by my friends who went back that mine are loose and lobsided... So the problem is I'm going skiing this weekend. Should we bring our skis back and get the incompent tech to mount them again or take them somewhere where I might not get them by this weekend.... Also is it right to demand a refund from the guy or what.. All the times I've gone other places I've never had this happen.. Any help would be great.. Thanks +K for your time

I didn't read this. But by the title i can tell you should just fly to the sandy beachs of Naboo. They have the best tech guys there ever, They once fixed an X wing fighter in under 2 hours.

If this destroyed your skis yes, refund. Otherwise id say remount and not charge you for any of the mounts. And never ever ever go there again.

And when you do go get skis mounted, label tip/tail. write a note and stick it to each ski saying where you want them mounted, and draw a line. sure its kind of obnoxious, but do what youve gotta do to get it done right.

I've had people fuck up my mounts twice on new skis. I've gotten new, new skis both times. Granted once the skis actually delaminated after a week and the other time the bindings were mounted -10 or something (no joke they were literally almost on the tails, retard mounting them put the tip of the toe piece at the center...)

Go into the shop and explain to a manager or owner how badly mounted your shit is, show it to him, and point out how dangerous it is. Tell him how park skis (in the long run) will snap along old drill holes and you don't want this. You had new skis when you brought them in and now you have a pair that's going to be drilled twice, that's not cool. At the worst I almost garuntee you get remounting done on the spot there for free, maybe even a pair of skis that are single drilled.

Absolutely not saying you are wrong, but before you go in, check one thing. I mount a lot of skis, I measure all of them, most (most, not all) ski manufacturers topsheet graphics do not quite line up exactly with what is actually center, 2.5 back, etc...

If you've measured your skis, and the numbers don't match, then yes, you have a legit gripe... and a good shop should be more than willing to fix something they've done wrong... regardless of the timing. Sorry that you even had to post this... that does suck if they are off 2 cm.

I also recommend going to the manager of the store or the head honcho of the shop.

My buddy had his afterbangs drilled through the core and through the base. The shop people knew about it and talked to him about it. They discussed it with the manager and came to the conclusion that the shop would buy him the same model or the equivalent of price. So now he got Sir Francis Bacons for about 200 bucks.

Long story short, communication with the shop will lead to better things than if you just dismiss it and go to another place without approaching the issue hands on.

This. Always this. The best shop in the world probably has about a 95% success rate with mounting skis- it's just confusing, there's a ton of miscommunication, details from the skier's side of things are left out, shops not asking enough questions, illegible hand-writing... the list goes on.

The more YOU can do to ensure that things are clearly labeled, clearly written, and clearly understood by both parties, the more you will get the correct mount you want. What seems completely obvious to you, is not necessarily obvious to someone else. Make sure everything is labeled as you want it, I can't stress that enough.

If things come back wrong after that, then at least you did all you could and the shop now owes you some sort of compensation.

If the mounts are off, best you can expect and you should push for is replacement skis. No matter what the ski, they've drilled holes where you don't want them and nobody wants gaping holes, filled or no.

They'll cost them less than you probably paid, and should be easy if they stock the model or are supplied by the brand.

If they aren't willing to drop a couple of hundred bucks you don't go there again.

But that doesn't sound like the problem here. It sounds more like the tech was just off his head and not giving a shit. Seems like of the three pairs:
- 1 pair was mounted with one ski at true centre and one ski at -2cm.
- 2 pairs were mounted so the bindings weren't straight with the ski and were loose.

If thats the case the shop probably needs to know because their tech is totally incompetent not let alone know about your fucked up skis. Obviously they ballsed it up and should be replacing your shit. The more holes the more likely snappage is.

this, when i had my shop mount my EP pros i had a piece of papertape with a line saying, MOUNT HERE and my BSL written besides it + i stayed and watched

And when i had to have my bindings remounted after ripping out i didn't even trust the shop, i just asked for 4 helicoils and the tool to mount them, then i did it myself back in their shop...


just insist on staying and watching them do it, its only gonna be 30 min. max and you'll be sure they do it right....
+ its a great moment to talk with the shoptech and exchange knowledge and gnarly skiing stories ....

and if you really can't stay, label the crap out of them, indicate mounting line, the middle of the ski, indicate front and rear (some techs think twins are always symmetrical), etc...

and if they didn't fill the holes, complain, or fill em up yourself ...

I mount alot of skis to at the shop i work at, and i always find it so hard to believe people cock up on mounting, its an easy job. So many shops dont measure or are careless, so good to hear you do.

My shop even makes us learn to mount with out jigs as we dont have jigs big enough for 125mm+ under foot skis.

If a customer says where they mount. it aint rocket science.

As regards to OP that sucks that you got a dodgy shop. They should compensate you.

If some techs think that, then these guys don't even deserve to call themselves techs, they should be called "useless, uninterested salespeople working in the wrong place"...
