I want a higher din.

I have an old pair of Marker bindings that suck. i've cranked the din as high as it will go and they still pop off on rails and bumps. anyone have any tricks to getting a little more out of my crap bindings?

If you crank your DIN to the max, you will get inconsistent release values. Never run a DIN at the max or minimum of the range. Also need to make sure your forward pressure is correct.

Make sure your forward pressure is right, then turn your din down a little.

The low end marker bindings pre-release horribly, i finally got sick of it and bought griffons, which have been fine. Also, as the above posts said, dont run them at max or min din.

The low end of the DIN range is just fine. I run my PX15s and Mojo 18s at a DIN of 9/9.5. Its at the bottom of the range for both. They both release reliably, and safely.

BUT... you should always get a release check at a shop, at least once a year. One of the toes on my PX15s has to be cranked a whole DIN higher, because the spring has worn out faster than the other toe.

Too many studies are done which prove the opposite unfortunately. It's a risk and therefore only a probability, not a certainty, which may or may not work in your favor.

Simple answer for the OP, get rid of your shitty Marker bindings. I used to ride a pair of speed point 12s, (The one with the demo dial in the middle) and they used to randomly eject or sometimes not come off when I crashed. I got them checked out by a shop and they said they were fine, and they were set right, it's just that they're shit. Now I ski FKS, never had a problem with them.

There is nowhere in the Solly tech manual that says this, im pretty sure all the others say the same.

All bindings should work fine at whatever they are set at by the indicator, if you turn the springs past those values then yeah its probably not gonna work, but say putting it on 6.5 on a 6-14 binding it should release fine although it should work at 6 but I guess a little bit might help.

But yeah buy a half decent pair of bindings.

Sorry guys, I had old information. Older bindings used to have problems at either end of the DIN range. The studies I was referring to were actual company data from test lab results on certain unmentioned adult and junior bindings.

So today, I went over to the see the Product Manager of Bindings for Atomic, who also conducts tests for all Amer bindings (both Salomon and Atomic). He said current bindings no longer have the problems they used to have at the low end of the range when the spring is wide open. Release values are consistent. However, when you run the max of your DIN range and the spring is fully compressed, problems still occur. So, never run 12 on a 12-DIN binding for example.

Good info.

At what stage do bindings cease to be 'old' and start to become 'new'? I've got some relatively old p18s (Say 5 years old) that have a range of 10-18. I'd like to have them on 10 but put them on 10.5/11 for fear of releasing issues.

You should be fine in general, but you'll never know until your specific bindings have a release test done. Plastics could have weakened, DIN spring might have issues... this goes for all bindings. You just need to get yours tested to know for sure.
