I read this quote recently and thought of it when kids on here were disrespecting pics of American soldiers.

I certainly do not support war, I am proud to be Canadian, a nation that is known for peacekeeping, but I am sickened by most of the kids in my generation today who are so quick to pass judgement on those attempt to defend their freedoms, and yet these same kids live for nothing drugs and partying and do nothing constructive to make the world a better place.

My buddy's dad died in Iraq. Without getting into the polotics of of war and whether or not the US should be in Iraq, there are people willing to die to defend the American way of life, to allow you to continue to enjoy skiing and mountain biking and having fun. If the terorists had their way, every city in North America would be 9/11 all over again. Its a little hard to enjoy skiing if you are dead.

So instead of trying to be cool and heaping disrespect on the soldiers in Iraq, ask yourself, What are YOU doing to make the world a better place??????

I certantly don't disrespect ANY of the soldiers in iraq, afgahnistan, or fightign for us anywhere. I have numerous friends who are part of those forces, and I would NEVER say that they are bad people. It's the people who rule over them that I disrespect, as some of them do as well.

but do we really know who's to blame? is it the kids? partially. is it our media? partially. Is it our way of life? partially. Well, someone put a lot of thought into the western way of life, either before they created it or while it was being created.

They did a good job of shifting focus and blame.

Fuck..there's so much shit to sift through to find an answer...and when you do, you get even more depressed...and then you try to ask, show, tell other people...and....well, you know how people are.

I feel sorry for most of the soilders, because I think most of them were decieved as well.....I don't think most of them thought they were being sent to fight an illegal war,which evolved into guerrilla war where they really don have a game plan or objective,they would be would be killing innoccent civilians,starting up their own ' torture being used to facilitate the looting of priceless antiquities + ancient texts, pillage the natural resources and turn the place into a radioactive nightmare thanks to all the DU dust that's everywhere......the shitty thing is everyone who's there will get fucked up from this shit , there's areas of Bagdad that have 8000 times the maximum 'safe' allowable amount of radiation ......If your exposed to that kind of shit you most likely will have severly fucked up children ....its horrible.
So ya, I don't think most of the soilders thaught that was what they were signing up for

Good points all...I am aware that 9/11 and iraq arent directly related, and Sohcahtoa, no insurgent has tried to 'take your skiis' as you put it..precicely because there are those who defend our North American way of life.

I really dont think Americans realize how many people in the world HATE the USA and whould love to destroy it. As a Canadian who has done relief work in Haiti and other places, I have seen Anti american sentiment first hand. We in Canada observe US forign policy, and often follow along, but there are times, such as the war in Iraq, when we take a step back and disagree, in spite of trade sanctions, etc, imposed on us by your goverment.

This is all to say that you are very lucky to live in the US, and reinforce my initial point, dotn disrespect those who protect your (our) way of life, and do soemthing useful with your life! People have died to protect it!

Completely agree and i will always hold the utmost respect for the soliders. But with our freedoms it unfortunately gives the dumb fucks the right to take advantage and overlook what they are given! But i feel the majority of american sunderstand what a sacrafice it is to volunteer for service however misguided it may be!

Canadian army wouldnt allow me to enlist because of my poor hearing ability. Whew, I just think the Iraq war is wrong. They havent found WMD or any other shit. This war is based on lies. US caused lot of shit going on in Iraq, museum looting, thievery of oil, prison abuse, destroying thousands of homes that belongs to poor Iraqis, and many more.

I support the troops, but not the war. I applaud them for risking their lives and being active but my biggest support for them is to bring them home, safe without anymore deaths. This war is too confusing to dissect and understand fully from either side but what I do understand and see and am sick of are the news reports of yet another soldier's death, who is not even old enough to drink, has a whole life of oppurtunity ahead of him or her, is leaving behind, parents and siblings, wives, unborn children they will never see. It just tears my heart to see these people dying, plain and simple. Im not trying to get into the politics of the war, just stating my observation that the brutality of war is so god damn horrible yet the government and media try to hide it such as not allowing any pictures of fallen soldiers, caskets, not airing the Nightline news segment where they were only going to show pictures of those that died and read their names. Personally I think it is pretty fucked up when ABC decided not to air the show showing the faces and names of those who have fallen because it is too 'political' whether or not people support this war, we have the right to see what it is doing to our soldiers and give them the ultimate respect, more respect than bush, more respect than kerry, more respect than anyone. Personally I would like that Nightline segment to run with George W. reading the names of the soldiers, lets see what that says about war.

i had a dream last night about soilders being sniped down and not having any chance to fight back, shooting blindly into the air, trying to hit something...one guy had his head blown off, well, almost all of it...a giant hole where his face was....and he turned around and grabbed his head before falling .... horible shit.

You say they're disrespectful - I could say you're neglecting and disrespecting many dead that are actually fighting for their safety instead of a possible threat to the safety of some americans (because saddam is hardly overthrowing the US, unlike in other wars). And you're right the kids that are doing drugs and partying are not being constructive, not to war/death at least.

don't get me wrong, Soldiers/Troops are necessary, they help protect the world from GREATER threats to safety. but in this situation it seems like the US troops (and sanctions) are causing greater harm to Iraqi lives than Iraqis could ever cause to american lives

Last night I got into a debate with this guy. He is pro terrorism, and doesnt feel bad about the innocent lives being sacraficed. He feels that we deserve this, and I do agree that our country has done some fucked up stuff. I do not believe in war, and I dont understand how someone could disregard all of the lives that have been taken. I always try and respect other people's political views, and I do respect his. However, it made me lose interest in being more then friends with him. I know I shouldnt hold it againts him, but he said he would love to have osoma over for a drink, and he is his hero.

What pisses me off is when a whole lot of those 'people sleeping peacefully' (ie, Americans who have nver been to war, always lived in peace and prosperity) are so far removed from the realities of life that they spend all their time having fun, enjoying life, and criticizing those who allow them to do so, whithout making a positive contribution.

Example: all these kids who hate cops, bash em, etc. While it is true that cops soemtimes abuse their powers, they are out on the streets at 3am while all you kids are tucked in bed, making sure that no-one breaks into your house. They allow society to function normally.

I just came back from a medical aid trip to Haiti, a country with virtually no police presence, basically in totaly anarchy at the moment. It is also the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. Coincidence? I dont think so. You kids that think your so tough wouldnt last a day down there. IF you are stronger than someone else, you beat them up and take whatever you want...might makes right. The police and justice system prevent this from happening to the ame extent in North America, as flawed as the system may be.

Ski Intstuctor Mike: your comment'(because saddam is hardly overthrowing the US, unlike in other wars)' is completely false; while it is true that 9/11 was never linked to Saddam, SOMEONE sure as heck invaded the US that day, and soemone needs to pay. Im proud to be Canadian, Proud to be the citizen of a nation known for peacekeeping, but soemtimes force IS necessary.

And 221: you are uneducated, and every time you post soemthing on this site you show your stupidity. Unless you have something intelligent to say, why bother wasting everyones time?

i agree that a lot of kids, especially younger ones, don't have much respect at all, but i think respect is something you have to grow into. i used to hate the hell outta cops when i was young and stupid, but once you grow up and realize the service they're doing you, you respect them. same way with these kids-- yeah, they're disrespectful now, but they'll grow up, they may lose friends in the war and they may even get drafted... you never know. hopefully, though, they're gonna give credit where its due, eventually.

yea ok canadien fucker. u said cops protect us at 3 am when we are sleeping....first off. when that same fucker who was protecting me at 3 am while i was cozily sleeping. is now cozily sleeping in his bed at 5pm. second. i live in a place where not one cop is needed. and all they do is harass young kids and bust parties.

there is no threat of an invasion to us grounds. absoultely none. the attacks on 9-11 is deffenately not considered an invasion. and frankly all the innocent people the us has killed, or imprisoned over the years in wars on someone elses soils dont equal the 2000 killed in the trade centers.

and who is the us to say this is how the world is run and we will fuck you up if you do it differently?? all the us wants to do is have capitolisim run the plantet, then the rich will just get richer and richer. its scary that like 10 people run the entire country and make decisions that effect your life daily. and they call it a democracy.

who runs the country you ask?? its not necessarily a who its a what. its money. if you have alot of it u can buy anything. u can buy a presidential election, since it seems that the winner always gets the most money from prestiegous buisnesses and personal parties.

and sorry but the people who are at war right now.... sorta chose to sign up for the army. its their job. now dont cry to me or anyone around when they die. go watch cnn and listen to them cry about the 150th american life lost. and then not even tell you how many iraqis have died. \

operation iraqi freedom should be called operation we want ur fuckin oil so we dont have to use ours. so when there actually is a oil shortage....we have the only supply hidden up in alaska. then guess how much ur paying for gas. smart idea huh, control the fuel, control the world. the us could give 2 shits about the iraqis.

the us has issues. and ur canadien ass should shut up and enjoy your free health care and cheap colleges. while i watch 100 billion dollars that could have been used for something much better, get used on restructuring 2 countrys that we blew apart and then decided to put back together. and im pretty sure that 100 billion dollars could have sent every person in the us to college for free. imagine an entire country of decently educated people. wow what a thought.

i respect american soldiers, they chose to fight and they do it with pride, however, 150 americans dying is not a huge problem compared to the 60,000+ people who died on d-day. its rediculous. people are blowing things out of proportion.

Smuggs: if your post had a point, I really failed to see it. Besides a general anger at the government, you offered no solutions, exatly the reason I started this post in the first place. It seems to be 'politically correct' to hate the government, to bitch and whine, meanwhile enjoying to excess all that life has to offer and not offereing any positive contribution to the world.

It makes me laugh when I hear uneducated Americans like you sit and bitch and moan about how terrible it is that the US is taking Iraqi oil, then you get in your big SUV's burn that oil to drive to the corner store to load up on pork rinds and crappy beer.

(I know Im steryotyping, but you started it with your comments about Canadian health care and education...which, incidentally, I feel are FAR better uses of money than a war..at least thats something we agree on)

The problem with you Americans, whether a redneck war supporter or a 'cool' dude who's bashing the war, is that you cant seem to see things objectively. You listen to the liberal media bashing the war, and jump on the bandwagon crying rivers about how terrible it is, not realizing that without the war, your standard of life would change drastically. You might actually have to start driving fuel eficcient cars...'gasp' no more Hummers and F-350s.


NOw I am AGAINST the war in many respects, as I am a CANADIAN, who belives in peaceful negoatiations, not war.

However, the US foreign policy has pissed off so many people...( making them mad enuf to kill themselves in order to harm americans) that negotiations are not possible. Therefore, the US has 2 choices: use force to enforce foreign policy to maintain the current standard of life, or have to look at ways of saving energy, cutting back on freedoms. Eg: some cities in Europe have a 'no sunday driving' policy...meaing you can't drive a car on Sunday, to improve air quality and save energy. Imagine if police in the States tried to enforce that! Holy jumpins, what a violation of rights... Ya Cant have yer cake and eat it too, kids.

So back to my original point: Unless you are making a positive contribution YOURSELF, stop your hypocritical bitching about how terrible the war is as you sit there in your pickup in a drug induced haze getting more obese on junk food.

Smuggs..Im laughing at you right now, mostly in awe of your ignorance. Not only was that poorly written and almost unreadable, it makes no sense.

I can see you've never worked the night shift. Trust me, they are not 'sleeping cozily at 5pm' they are taking the car in to get fixed, cutting the grass, taking care of the kids, doin all the stuff that has to be done in life, becuase soemones gotta do it and things arent open all night.

I work nights as a Paramedic, and while I don't always agree with what the cops do, I have tremedous respect for many of them. My life has been saved by a cop more than once: I think I am far better qualified than you to judge what a cop does.

One more thing: ya know why cops break up yer underage parties? Cuz if they dont, then kids drink till they get alcohol poisoning, and then I end up having to rush their dumb asses to the hospital to save their lives. Or they drink and drive and kill a mother of 3 kids...(a 17 year old drunk did that up here last summer)

My final point: you think cops arent needed where you are?? Just go to Haiti then..its an Island paradise, no cops are needed there, right?? You wouldnt last a day before you were rolled if you were lucky, killed if you weren't.

If you dont know what you're talking about, don't bother trying.

^That's exactly what people don't understand about war. It hurts when soldiers die too. They feel pain when their buddies die, parents hurt when their children die. Whether or not they signed up for war has nothing to do with it.

And as to what we need to do to stop this stuff: The US needs to stop giving Israel tanks bulldozers and attack choppers. The whole muslim world hates America right now simply because of that. Bin Laden has said numerous times that the attacks on the WTCs and the pentagon(people tend to forget the pentagon attack because those people are 'miliatarily involved') were in response to the US's disreguard in their holy lands during the gulf war and today. Unless the US dramatically rethinks their foreign policy, this stuff is going to get alot harrier before it gets better, and alot more than 150 soldiers and a couple thousand civilians are going to die.

i def. think there is a huge lack of respect these days, it makes me sick to think of all the soldiers risking their lives over there for a buncha mother fuckers who take everything for granted and dont give two shits about ne one but themselves, it used to be righteous and honorable to give ur life for your country, but now when you come back you arent greeted by parades and support but otherwords by protest and demonstrations, im proud to be one of the ppl left in this country who supports our soldiers and feels for them

Here's the best part about all this: We have upgraded north american and world security to a point never seen before. Our airports have ridiculous amounts of metal detectors, bomb sniffing dogs, and x ray machines. Our phone, email, and other communication devices are monitored at almost all times of use. And yet a majority of us feel less safe and more vulnerable and scared than ever before.

I'm not one to disrespect a 21 year old soldier who gets sent to Iraq with for a salary that barely covers life's essentials and faces death multiple times a day, but how dare we say that we're winning the war on Terror when people are terrified.

honestly, i would figure the non-skiing gabber on NS.com is not the best place to introduce such a heated, controversial topic, for with everyone's somewhat extremist opinions, we'll all just want to shoot each other down.

mr. canadian pro american soldier: i understand its a big deal when people die, i have had people close to be pass away, im not naive or ignorant, i know the pain, i said that i respect the American soldiers fighting, i just don't believe American society or candians should get so worked up about it, its inevitable people will die defending what they believe in, nevertheless, that doesnt mean we shouldn't respect them for what they're doing.

i think you have a good point, canada, but at the same time, i think you are trying to educate people on some truth who definitely do not want to hear about it. However, I think you are doing a good thing, but people on here may argue against it.

No matter how 'unconvincing' the reasons were, the White House had to know that it was an impossible task to place a Western format on a Muslim country this way, a country where rebel volunteers can easily walk in through virtually open borders. And especially in these times, when the Us government silently approves all the Israeli actions against the Palestine people and the fight against Muslim fundamentalism in a general way.
