Okay, so today I got back this huge essay we had to write in class in my history class and the topic was 'How is War Beautiful?' and so I write an essay on how it's not because i don't believe it is, anything else i could have written i would be making up and so I turn in this big old essay on how war isn't beautiful and my teacher gives me my essay back the next week with a big fat '0' on it saying that 'The essay was not an opinionated essay' How the fuck is that not an opinionated essay? 'How is war beautiful' is n extremely opinionated essay, besides, beauty is inthe eye of the beholder...

Uh... well you COULD write a non-opinionated expository essay about that. But you'd have to base in university level aesthetics. your teacher is a moron. And who the fuck gives out questions like 'how is war beautiful'? Sounds like a crazy gun nut to me.

was there a ceratin thing she was lookiung for in teh essay cause thats a fuckin stupid topic and its complete opinion. Argue that shit with her and just tell ehr to read other peoples essays and shell see that they are just as much of an opinion as urs is.

jd i think its a great question. some people will never understand how war is beautiful, you can try watching the thin red line and you might get it, but most likely you'll see the main anti war message. read the things they carried as well, theres an natural anamalistic nature to war - which is beautiful in its own way.

Sounds like a shitty question in the first place. Although you don't need to give your opinion on all essays, all you do is answer the question how war is beautiful even if you think so or not.

War is beautiful when it is over, war is beautiful when it remains a distant memory, that will never be forgotten, and will never be repeated, war is beautiful when a soldier comes home from hell to their families, ect. Ive had this happen to me before, it sucks. There are ways you could have worked around the topic, so that you arent writing a bunch of bullshit.

it sounds like the essay was posed for exploration, which means you have to do exactly that. drop your opinions (despite that its an opnionated essay) and explore.

in that case, she should have asked if war was beautiful, thereby allowing people the option of making a more challenging argument. But such an inhibiting question is absolutely awful. It's better than the kiddy idiot questions though... 'Write an essay about your favourite place'.

the whole basis of the essays was on a 1930's movie about WWI (all quiet along the western front) and about how all this german soldier's friends die and his town is destroyed and his mom dies...i could have pulled something out of it if it wasn't based on that, but i never thought people's family and friends dying was amazingly beautiful (and the soldier dies int he end'

i think that although it is a very restrictive question, it is a valid one. People do only see and study the ugly side of wars (at least from my history class experiences), they never look at the beauty that can come from it. i mean that kid who posted a bunch of pictures of soldiers fighting agains terrorism was able to see a little bit of the beauty that war brings, espically in the one of the soldier cradeling the baby. War is an ugly dirty thing, but from that there is a need for help and protection and comfort, which when fulfilled can be a beautiful thing.

Well it was all very strictly based around this movie/book which didn't potray any of the actual beauties of war, but i see your point.

id say theres beauty in the extreme of mans situation. its pushing mans emotional and psychological abilities to the breaking point. in that sense its like watching an athlete perform to their greatest ability, giving everything they have. i don't think that war is the best media for this, but i believe that human beings need to be tested. we just sort of live from day to day, not knowing what we are capable of dealing with. i can't say its great or that i would want to see myself in that sort of situation, but it is beautiful to think about.
