External Memory

So I have a Macbook and when I edit a lot of the time, I never have enough memory to finish the rendering or export it, So I was gunna go see what I could get for extra memory but  I came across the external memory. There's a 650gb for $75 and basically I was wondering if this would work?

so you mean external hard drive? memory and hard drive space are different. ram will make your computer faster, hard drive space gives you more room which is what i think you're talking about

i wouldn't skimp on a 650gb for $65 unless it's a reputable company with good reviews. you do not want to take any risks with your external drive crashing

Dude, its not memory, its hard drive.

Check out a 1tb western digital, it'll be 80 bucks max.

that is a desktop internal hard drive. i don't think that's what you want

I have the regular macbook 13inch. It's not the pro but I got it off someone for $100 cause they were buying the new pro. So ok I'm using the regular macbook, my camera is a sony with avchd files and I'm using FCE to edit. Will everything you guys recommended still work?

yep my old computer broke right as the unibody macbook came out so i got it. needless to say when the mpb came out 2 months later i felt rather silly

So i bought a SeaGate 500gb portable hard drive because it worked with both usb 2.0 and firewire 800 then i bought the firewire 800 and I when I got home the next day I found that my macbook doesn't have the firewire 800 port. I am so mad cause the guys where I got it were telling me it was literally wayyyy faster. So now I'm pissed. Is there anything I can do other than buy a macbook pro

why? use the USB 2.0 on your harddrive man... don't just buy a pro for no reason

you'll do fine with USB. it won't be what slows down your process.

usb isn't THAT slow, i mean firewire 800 is obviously faster but usb will work.

get a Western Digital external hard drive.. they're the best.
i have one of the portable ones and my roommate has the normal one and they both are great... i end up leaving mine plugged into my ps3 most of them time tho caus it has a ton of movies /tv shows/ music on it

ps go for the TB!!!
