I guess the US Department of Homeland Security is teaming up with Wal-Mart to encourage customers to 'spy' on each other?

i ride the train every day. There's a recorded announcement when I'm waiting on the platform, and after I've boarded the train that says "do try to keep all your personal belongings with you at all times and report any suspicious activity."

not 1984-like at all.

excellent book, but you'll realize after you read it that most of the time when people reference it, they are completely incorrect.

The thing I forgot to mention is how they're going to be doing it.  From what I've heard a message of some sort is going to be looping on their TV's for a while.  That's what I'm referring to as 1984 like. 

It's a little different if you're sitting in an airport terminal and a guy leaves a wrapped christmas present alone on a bench and walks away.  I was about 20 seconds away from reporting a guy that did that a a few years ago in Philly but luckily I followed him around the corner and noticed he was chasing his little daughter that got away for a second.  If I did reported him, it would have been a real shitty day for his whole family (especially since he appeared to be middle eastern).  But this is were I see that walmart is the wrong place for this.  If I'm buying 1000 rounds of .22 to go out plinking; I don't want some paranoid jerkoff running to the manager creating a ruckus & saying I'm a terrrrrst.

Really though, what does this say about Wal-Mart customers? Are they really too dumb to say anything if some guy rolls up and starts hauling big tanks out of the back of his truck while wearing a gas mask?
