Hey, my retarded parents are making me take an 8 hour fucking class on all this first aid and CPR shit this Saturday because of 'the lifestyle I lead.' How many of you guys have learned this stuff and think it's really valuable?

Ya, i know all that shit. I have learned it in various places through the years. So far i have been lucky enough not to have to use it, but you never know when something could go wrong. If you have to take the class anyways, pay attention and try to learn as much as you can, because you might need it some day.

If you ski in bounds its really not that important because ski patrol is so close by, but still its useful stuff to know it could save someones life someday and it only takes a day to learn. But if you ski backcountry at all you defintley should take that class cause you are your own help. I am planning to take one anyway this summer

even if you ski inbounds, its useful. ski patrol could take up to 10-15 minutes to get to the scene, and if you're right there, you could give the person that extra time they would need.
i've been certified by the Red Cross, and im thankful for it. hopefully i wont ever have to put my knowledge to the test, but if i have to, i'm confident that i can at least give a helping hand.
CPR: learn it, live it, love it, take it out for dinner, seduce it, take it back to your place, open a bottle of wine with it, man, i love First Aid

what blows is that in order to keep your credentials, you gotta recertify every damn year. i had to wake up at 7am two saturdays ago and drive out to the country somewhere to hear an instructor teach me stuff i already knew for, like 5 hours. i was pissed.

why wouldnt you. I think everyone should have at least the basics like your course...especially if you participate in any sport. I have everything from ski patrol courses...but have had several instances outside of the hill were it was usefull (co-worker choking and buddy in college having massive seisures). I think the one saturday a year is would mean nothing if you ever have to use your knowledge to help out a buddy no matter what happened. So suck it up and take the course...you may never have to use it, but you'll be kicking yourself if the situations ever happen and you dont know what to do

yeah one saturday isn't a big deal when you concider that it could potentially put you in a position to save a life someday. i did it, havne't used it ever but i could if i had to and thats what made it worth it.

Its winter, the birds have all flown south, all but one. One little bird that waited too long. As it flew to catch it's buddies it got icicles on its wings and fell to the ground. The bird then saw a nice looking branch at the top of a nearby tree and it said to a nearby cow, 'I want to reach that top branch but I don’t have then energy to fly up, can you help?' The cow said, 'Here, eat some of my poop it'll fuel you to climb up the tree.' The little bird said, 'Thanks!' and had some of the cow poop. The bird flew up to the first branch of the tree and rested, then the next day flew to the next branch, until finally the bird reached the top branch. Then the farmer came out with a shotgun...
The moral of the story is, bullshit may get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.
