** HELP! University **

So I want to apply for a bunch of universities over this christmas holiday just to keep my options open.

I moved to east coast Canada and tbh I would absolutely love to move back to the mountains,

I mean who wouldn't?

So if anyone has any idea of a decent university within close proximity of some mountain pow that I can apply to please post up

or PM me cause I need to get these applications out ASAP

There are more than you think here are a few; University of Nevada in Reno, University of Utah, Colorado University, Montana State University in Bozeman, Boise State University.

There is also quite a few smaller ones in Salt Lake and Denver if your into that.

UVic is pretty sweet and fomm what my friends say a much better time than UBC. UBC you have whistler and 3 other decent hills, plus the city of vancouver.

well if you actually give a fuck about skiing you would not uvic and you would go to school in van, ferries really do actually take a toll on skiing time and budget
mcgill would be sick but it aint the same unless your hungry and ready to hit some rails and deal with kids who get hungover and get lazy

I'm in Canada, we don't have GPA's, but in my last "report" I got a %92 in international business (thanks to my 88/91 on my exam) and around an 80 in university level english and calculus

Check out UBC okanagan campus, right near awesome skiing and a smaller atmosphere.

U of C gave me an estimate of atleast 20k for any of the courses (per year)... that kinda made me shit my pants, hahah

U of M gave me 14.8k per year which I think is the best so far?

(these are all Resident Student quotes as oppose to Non-resident)

Yup to the kid who said don't go to UVic because of skiing cost. The cost of living is much less in Victoria. Still expensive, it's BC, but you can easily find a place close to campus for like $100 less than Vancouver. Plus there is good surfing here.

Also UBCO is like a skiing campus straight up. Everyone I know who goes there is a skier. I almost went there. Pretty glad I didn't because I love Victoria but I can tell you the skiing scene would have been much better.

Uvic is sweet, and personally I find Vic way more chill than Van, but you can't argue that for skiing wise UBC is a much better option than UVic.

all universities in BC are generally about the same costs. UBC is a bit more competitive.

The university itself is about the same cost. In Victoria you only live on campus first year. Most UBC kids stay in res until third year. The situation for off campus housing is much better in Victoria both for cost and distance. It depends on your lifestyle, but most would say UVic is cheaper.

UBC is harder to get into. I got into UBCO, UofC, UVic and UofA but not UBC (well I did, but not the program I wanted)

As for skiing I was by no means saying UVic is better for skiing than UBC. Just the cost to take the ferry to whistler every pow weekend is not that bad considering the difference in cost of living. A lot of people here rock the whistler seasons pass. The thing we don't have is stuff like grouse. If you want to ski you are driving minimum 2.5 hours. Whistler is basically a 3.5 hour commute if you hit the ferry right. A day trip to whistler is a long day, most people do weekends.

Anyways if skiing is your number one goal, don't go to UBC or UVic. Go to UofC or UBCO.

Its all kind of the same deal IMO, my one sister goes to UVic and pays around 500 for a shared house, same deal for people in Vancouver. Near UBC itself is rather expensive but a place on commercial or main is pretty affordable. Really not that much difference (atleast not worth picking another school for.) My other sister goes to UBCO and pays 650 for a shared condo thingy.

UBCO isn't in a much better situation than UBC, you need to drive atleast 35-40mins to Big White, and Silverstar and Rev are ateast a day trip away (no idea realy.) Getting to Seymour takes me give or take 40 mins but I think is less overall distance just traffic. And because UBCO is much smaller than UBC provides less flexibility for scheduling to ski. Not to mention you would need a car to ski regularly at UBCO.

UofC would be sweet because COP is near by, but Sunshine/ Lake Louise are couple hours drive, just like whistler is to UBC.

All are good schools and nearish to mountains. If UVic had mountains closer and offered the program I wanted I think I would have went there. And the bunnies are cool.

That being said, I would strongly suggest picking your school for academic reasons, make sure the school you pick can offer you what you want, and skiing is the bonus :) I myself, can ski around 50 days a year at UBC if that helps at all.

everythng has already been said but any Uni in vancouver is prime location...for skiing.

North island college is on vancouver island 2o min away from mt washington, its coastal mountian we get SHIT tons of snow similar to whis conditions. the park is pretty fun look into it. oh and the town is small and super fun.

First of all the drive to any vancouver hills all huge pain in the ass city driving, seriously transit is almost better. To big white is easy. Yes you need a car as you will if you want good skiing at ANY school.

You also can't compare big white or silver star to the 3 Vancouver hills. The snow and parks and skiing in the okanogan are way better, plus you get the whole urban thing.

The commute from UofC to sunshine is also WAY better than it is from UBC to whistler. Same as UBCO to apex or silver star. Seriously even the drive from UBCO to revelstoke even isn't that much worse than UBC to whistler.

but whatever I am not trying to argue here. what program are you taking? that is probably more important TBH.

University of Utah might fit the bill depending on what you want to study and the application is EASY AS FUCK. i think it took all of 20 min last year... even though the app is a joke the school is actually really good in certain medical fields and the middle eastern studies program is legit. it's also 20 min away from epic snow
