if anyone cares- another tip

instead of going right from the scraper to scotch brite, i actually got a Swix brush (any hard bristled, nylon(i believe) brush will do) and use that as much as i can after the scraper, to have a middle step from the scraper and scotch brite.
so i go
scrape
brush
scotch brite

make sure you spend a lot of time of each

hope this helps! the idea is also to save you more scotch brite.

who uses scotch brite???? ask anyone who has to wax skis for some sort of race (x-c skiing) it's wax, scrape, nylon brush (you got that part right) then buff the hell out of it with panty hose (clean ones...preferably new, and ball it up and use the same spot all the time) it'll make your skis fast....DAMN ASS HELL FAST

NEVER use a brass brush after you wax, it defeats the purpose of waxing as it just strips the majority off.

You can use a nylon very lightly or ever better get a horsehair brush and give it shit.

WTF are you talking about?!?!?!!? it's just to help polish the bit of wax that isn't into teh base. If you use a brass brush you have probibly already ruined your skis bases.

the brass brush removes too much wax...the nylon brush if for polishing the wax...making it smoother and thinner (less wax means go faster) if you wanna structure your ski, get it stone ground with a diamond cross pattern...of couse, different snow conditions means different structure...wet = hella structure...pow = none required...trust me on this...like i said in a different thread...my team spends an average of 2 grand on wax for 5 people for a 2 day comp...we know what we're doing

a brass brush is used when you wax with a very hard or cold wax, the nylon brush is for warmer wax, the brush isn't meant to help the water channel under the base thats what a grind is for. The wax itself is what deflects the water from your base, and on a cold day the wax reduces static between your ski base and the snow. so if you don't know shit keep your mouth shut.

reduces static between the snow and your skis??? sounds like you dont know shit, so keep your mouth shut...and the brass brush would destroy hard wax (cold wax as you call it) brass is for cleaning, or maybe one pass to get a little more off than the nylon (a little quicker) then you get into high fluoro and low fluoro waxes, etc....but i'm too lazy to explain

sorry guys but, what are you saying about taking all the wax off? Of course you have to take all the wax of, you wax your skiis and let them sit for a couple hours then you scrap them and brush them, you can use a horse hair, nylon and a wire brush, it doesn't wreck your bases. Also for high flurio's and speed wax you cork the wax into your base and it ussulay only last a run or two. But what would i know, i only race tune my skiis every night during the whole winter

not to much time, but you have to keep your skiis in good shape, it just starts to be a habit after a day of skiing. Having a good piar of tuned skiis makes a big difference

actually, you wanna leave a little bit of wax on...that's what makes skis go down the hill...but the wax you want on there is only supposed to be a couple molecules thick...so getting it all off isnt good...leaving it all on...also not good...and the only people who cork wax on their skis is x-c skier with kick wax...you can use a cork to buff wax, but nylon pantyhose is better...and high fluoro and low fluoro waxing is done the same as regular wax....there's special shit like cera F and streamline you can put on after....but that's totally different

sorry but obviosly you don't know much about ski tunning for races, cause for speed wax you sometimes have to rub it onto your base then cork it in. Also the wax that gets scraped off your skiis is the wax that didn't get absorbed into your base, if you scrap your skiis untilll no pieces of wax come off your ski there is still wax in your base

i know you moron...that would be the molecule layer i was talking about...damn it...and no one corks anymore...pantyhose works way better, becuase corking just gets the wax on the cork...then you rub some old wax, stuck on the cork, into your skis...trust me...everthing i've learned came straight from the finnish and check wax techs...these guys get paid like 50 thou a year to wax...i'm gonna take their advice over yours

i have to say paulou is right! alot of ppl still cork and some may use panty hose but whatever you decide to use then it's your choice! but just scrap all the wax off your ski and if you want really good tuned skis then try to tune them after a ski session!

i dont race...but i'm on the national development team for ski jumping...i've placed top 10 in north america, top 3 in canada....the waxing we do is VITAL to our success...in our sport, .25 of a km could mean the difference between 5th and 30th....racing is alot more technical, all your turns have to be good, blah blah blah....but according to the highest paid wax tech in the world....corks collect dirty wax, and then rub that into your skis, which you dont want...unless you use a new cork each time...then go for it, but a new pair of pantyhose for 3 bucks that'll last you a month is a litte more worth it

take it from an X racer... you use a hard bristle brush to put small grooves in the ski... the small grooves (virtually invisble to the eye) allow the air and the wax on ur skis to react with the snow... you use flurocarbon wax, that is a standard wax, the way it works is it works with snow air and water, they help you go faster, without the grooves its fine but if u want to fly... u need the grooves
