I mean for the price and images I've seen I like the D7000. (But I mainly just shoot stills.)

Do you have any lenses with Nikon or Canon?

if you're looking for better video features, you should get the 60D. cheaper and has a flip out LCD which is more useful for filming. Plus the video quality is identical to the 7D. Really, nobody should be buying the 7D for video at this point. For photography, sure, But the 7D is sort of a waste if you're mainly looking to do video.

That being said, I'm hoping Canon releases some sort of 60D/5D hybrid in the future. A full-frame sensor with 720p60p capabilities and a flip LCD.

no way in hell


NS is all over Canons D for HDSLR fliming, for a reason, but the D7000 is a legit option for filming. Only thing thats missing is 720 60p, but thats the only thing

meh i've shot with a d7000 and i wasn't very stoked on it. just didn't look as good imo.


and why do you not think that's going to happen? it would be the perfect solution for the HDSLR market. i really don't see any reason why it wouldn't happen; they're going to have to bring full-frame to the prosumer market at some point

neither have autofocus during video, the way you're probably thinking of. To autofocus on either, you press a button and it goes crazy for a minute before finding focus. In other words, you would never do it while filming. You're going to autofocus before you start shooting (or just don't autofocus, better to get good at manual focus). I believe the nikon may have had more points for autofocus, but since you autofocus before shooting it doesn't matter that much.

if you're looking for continuous autofocus while shooting, some sony DSLRs have that

Neither one is good for auto-focusing while you're filming, you can't really do that with a DSLR.

No hate but it seems like you have absolutely no knowledge of these cameras. I suggest getting a T2i with a couple lenses. If you really like it but feel like it's holding you back then upgrade to a 7D.

but if you're doing video the T2i will hold you back in no way, at least not anymore than the 7D will. going from a T2i to 7D for video purposes would be a complete waste of money.

not sure why people are still so hung up on the 7D. the 7D, T2i, and 60D are identical for video. only the 5D is a step up with its full-frame sensor, and even then the lack of 720p60p is a drawback for some people.

yea, true. although with a T2i, you still have to know how to pull focus well and how to use ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.

and people shouldn't think of the T2i as a beginner camera and the 7D as a more advanced one. From a photography standpoint, definitely. But I have shot with an HVX+35mm adapter for years and still went with the T2i

Again, very true. I don't think of the T2i as a beginer camera at all. I'm actually deciding if I should sell my D80 and HV30 to buy a nice t2i stup myself.

yo calm down dude. watch that video that Mander posted. the 'autofocus' on the D7000 is not any better than repeatedly hitting the autofocus button on a canon. i know you just bought one of these cameras so you want to defend it, but you need to accept that the 'continuous autofocus' has no practical applications whatsoever. not trying to sound douchey but let's not pretend it's something that it isn't.

they can all it continuous autofocus, but it's not. think about how a real video camera would have managed that situation and you will see what i mean. nikon is just desperately trying to find a way to make them stand out in terms of the HDSLR market, but it's not working.

enlighten me, in what ways does it do that?

by having a slightly larger sensor at a price point $200 higher?

oh were you not aware a DSLR's primary function is to take photos? If you include small detail the D7000 crushes the D60, its practically a D300s in a smaller body

1. It's called a 60D.

2. Oh were you not aware that in almost all my posts i mentioned that I was coming from a video standpoint? I know nothing about photography and never pretended to, nor did I mention the photography capabilities of any of the cameras. I said HDSLR market, not DSLR market. The crucial difference that you apparently missed is that the HDSLR market is for people looking to film with a DSLR. Hence the HD in HDSLR. This whole time I've been strictly comparing video aspects and I made that clear. Canon still rules the HDSLR market. I really don't give a fuck if you think Nikon is better, the fact of the matter is that Canon is still more popular. So even if Nikon is putting out great photography cameras, they're still trying desperately to overtake Canon's lead in the HDSLR market by including gimmicks such as their 'continuous autofocus.'

3. I will take everything you have to say more seriously when you post real videos, not a twixtor video of steve 'stept.'

Well, this just got nasty. Yes, canon will slaughter nikon in the video department. If I was you, I'd put together a t2i setup and learn your stuff with it.

so if you see I'm a sucky videographer (I will admit I am) you will feel better about yourself? I'm glad you enjoyed my twixtor demo, real edits will hopefully come when I get my glidecam 2k and tripod legs for my 501.

yea, i was nitpicking because you had also called my post out for something ridiculous. I made it clear that i was referring to video features. oh well, at least now i know why you stood behind the d7000.

and that's not why i said that. i meant i respect the opinions of those who appear to put time and effort into film/photography more than people who just sit at their computer playing with AE and other programs. and you don't have many serious photos i could look at so...

basically what i'm saying is if i had more proof that you were out there actually shooting instead of posting about nikons in m&a, I would take what you had to say a little more seriously.

as far as video goes I don't have anything but playing around with my camera and a few test edit from last season, as I said, I'm still waiting on a glidecam and tripod legs. I am definitely not an AE slug, although I do know a bit.

in the end, whichever one feels better in your hands is the one you should get. Even if the canon has slightly better video function, if the nikon feels better/steadier in your hands, your going to get better shots with it, even though its slightly worse at taking video. go to a camera shop, hold both of them, take a few sample pics/vids, and get the one that feels better.
and cameras get replaced pretty quick, so no matter which one you get its going to be replaced in a year or two.

i'm not dude. not at all. you jumped all over me when i made a small mistake (which wasn't even really a mistake because the d7000 really doesn't have continuous autofocus). plus you guys are talking about it from a photography standpoint when i repeatedly said i was talking about video aspects only. i'm generally a super nice and helpful member of m&a and got jumped all over by some nikon fanboys when i provided some slightly inaccurate information. just trying to help out the OP dude.
