Tron 3D IMAX

Well I haven't posted in a while really, so obviously this is something I'm pretty excited about.

I'm not sure why there hasn't been more hype on here for this movie.  I saw the regular 3D preview for it back over summer when I was high and it was the most visually stunning thing I have ever seen.  When I found out it was gonna be IMAX 3D, the decision was immediately made that acid would definitely be coming into play.  I don't care what anyone says, this will be my favorite movie to date.  Let's take a look at all the factors here:

1) It's Tron.  A cyber gaming universe filled with neons? Are you serious?
2) It's 3D.  Avatar 3D had the greatest visuals in a movie I have seen to date, this can only be better.
3) It's IMAX.  If you haven't ever seen an IMAX movie you're really missing out.  The picture and sound quality are incredible.
4) Daft Punk.  If you didn't already know, Daft Punk wrote the score for the movie.  I can understand if some people don't like electronica, but their style fits the movie perfectly (and I love electronica/house anyway).
5) Acid.  Now let me state it here (in caps because my bold isn't working) because I don't really know where NS draws the line on drug references.  I AM IN NO WAY ENCOURAGING THE USE OF ILLEGAL DRUGS.  I'm only saying I'll be taking acid because I want you to know what mental state I'll be in when watching this movie.

As you can see, those are 5 pretty strong points in favor of why this will be the best movie I have seen so far.  Anyone else as stoked as I am for this to come out?  he only downside I can think of is that it will cost $18, but that's a small price to pay to have my life changed.

Lastly, apologies if anyone thinks this should be moved to M&A, I thought it deserved the attention of NSG.

so excited. my friend and i are going to the premier wearing our daft punk helmets. so far what's been leaked of the score is sick. derezzed is sweet. i'm excited mainly for daft punk but also for jeff bridges and the lightcycle races because i used to rock the shit out of the tron video game

Agreed 100%. I'm sure it will/would be phenomenal sober but I'm just taking an extra step I feel will be beneficial for myself.

i played the game....


but i dont see how they are going to take a simple fun game like Tron and turn it into a fucking imax 3d movie?  like WTF the game wasn't even in 3D hahahah

I dont wanna judge without seeing it but by the looks of the previews it looks like it could be quite possibly the most pointless movie ever.  Like hey guys, i'm gonna ride around on my fake ass light cycle while holding a Frisbee, because that makes perfect sense...

sorry but...this movie looks fucking terrible. spending gajillions of dollars on 3d and stupid special effects and having daft punk do the soundtrack don't wash away terrible writing and crappy acting and traditional hollywood worthless tripe bullshit.

you know there are different levels of logical sense,

For instance, Avatar.   Doesn't really make much sense but it is passable because they have the Pocahontas storyline plus all the sick ass CGI and what not makes seem pretty real.


on the other hand, a bunch of dudes riding light cycles around a completely made up place, which looks like nothing you've ever seen before?  sounds pretty pointless to me.

don't let me discourage you from seeing the movie, by all means go for it, i just dont really think its worth $18 / my time

You have no idea what you're talking about. The game was based on the first Tron movie released in 1982. Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 release not a remake. it has some of the same actors and the same director. The first Tron was one of, if not the first movie to have 3D CGI used in it.

Exactly.  The first Tron was the first movie to use such a great amount of CGI, so it seems fitting to me that the sequel will once again be taking it to the next level using IMAX 3D technology.

And to whoever thinks it's a pointless movie and the story will suck...who cares.  I'm not looking for the next shutter island or inception which I thought were great movies, I'm looking to be transported into a futuristic video game world for ~2 hours of 3D neon excitement with electronica music playing.  And what kid hasn't dreamt/thought of ever actually being in a video game?  Do you have no youth?  And while drug use isn't the point of the thread, this movie has everything you need for a fun time on anything you choose: crazy neon visuals, 3D, and Daft Punk.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I'm just having a hard time believing there are kids who wouldn't want to see this.

That's understandable.  I guess maybe a lot of other people wouldn't really be into the style so much either, I still think it'd be worth watching for the visuals alone though.  I'm sure most people don't wanna spend $18 just to see some cool images, but if you go into it not caring about the story or acting or anything other than the visuals, you won't be dissapointed.

just saw a trailer for it and it looks pretty unreal. even if the plot isnt that good i cant guaruntee the visuals and sound will be mind blowing. with daft punk behind it all.

Well as expected the early reviews are saying the script sucks but visuals are incredible.  I'm hoping to see it opening weekend and post back here but I'm still waiting for a certain substance...

so yeah, i took acid and saw avatar 3d in january while visiting my friend at mcgill. let me tell you im just a casual stoner, no big drug user or anything. well, the combination of 3 tabs of potent lsd and the stunning directing of James Cameron, coupled with the 3d and imax literally blew my mind. so in regards to numbers #1 and #5.... fuck yeah my friend

Well I doubt anyone really cares anymore but it turned out that I could never get acid so two nights ago my friend and I decided to just go see it in IMAX 3d anyway and smoke before.  I hadn't been to an IMAX movie in about 3 years and I have never been to an IMAX 3d movie so it was probably the best movie experience ever.  Even by the end of the movie the visuals were just as engrossing and amazing as the beginning, and daft punk playing through IMAX theater speakers is the way music was meant to be heard.  I'm pretty sure i told my friend at one point that music had never felt better.

I had seen it before in regular 3d stoned and it was nothing compared to IMAX 3d.  It's definitely expensive at $18 a ticket, but my suggestion is to see it before it's gone from theaters.

Does most any sci-fi movie make complete sense? No, very few ever do.

And for everyone else.. I saw tron and it was awesome! 3d was weak but in this specific instance it was still necessary to bring out all the lights and colors.
