I love all the people saying "this does nothing to raise awareness for the cause!?!!" and just generally that this is pointless.
Firstly, the fact I've been on several different forums saying the exact same thing shows just how much a massive effect/how much awareness this is raising. I certainly wasn't thinking about this cause when I woke up, and I doubt most of you were either.
Secondly, even if the majority of facebookers don't donate, which of course they won't. The few people who weren't going to originally but then saw this meme and now will, make it completely worth it.
So yeh, change your facebook profile picture to a cartoon character ;-)

Who cares you make your profile picture a cartoon. You forget that this ever happened in a 1 week tops. Changing your profile picture doesn't stop violence against children.

OK I admit, my grammar was pretty shoddy, but hopefully you realise that's not really such a big deal here.
The fact is, I don't know if it's 10,000, 1,000 or even just 100 people, someone will donate to this cause because of this meme. And surely that's enough of a reason for it to take place? Sure, it's not the most effective campaign, and you'd have to be extremely naive to think it's going to change a lot of people's minds, which is why I made it pretty clear it my post that I didn't think this was going to happen.
I agree that the people that change there pictures and think they're making a huge difference are stupid, but there is always a chance that one of their more generous friends who wasn't aware of the meme before hand may see it and donate. I mean, it's not like there is any harm being done.

But once again, the fact is, someone will donate to this cause that wouldn't have before seeing this meme, and therefore, everyone complaining about it is a bit of a dick imo.

raising awareness is somewhat stupid. I have yet to find someone old enough to have a facebook, that reacts with "wow! this is awful! Child abuse? Since when?! Someone should stop this!"

I guess it is worth it if it does convince even a few people to help the cause. But i gotta wonder...how in the hell do you donate to stopping child abuse? It's not like cancer, no one's funding research.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the whole ordeal isn't really raising that much more awareness for child abuse. Child abuse is nothing new, and everyone already knows what it is. So it's just a waste if time, and it's fucking annoying.

If you truly think no one has ever donated to a charity having seen a "Internet pursuedo-fad trend" then I can't argue with you, but it my opinion that people have, and therefore, I don't see why this is getting so much hate. Surely some people will donate due to this fad?
