The direction of newschool skiing?

It appears to be going towards big mountain.
This worries me a bit.
Why? Big mountain isn't as fun to watch compared to park, pipe and urban, in my opinion.
I can't really ride big mountain, due to the fact that it's expensive, and I live on a hill, not a mountain.
People seem to get injured/killed more often in big mountain or back country.

I would like skiing to take more of an urban approach honestly.
This is probably due to the fact that I grew up on a skateboard.

And I know there's always the "ski how you want to ski, and don't worry about what the other people are doing"
but the idea that park skiing will die out, worries me a bit.

How do you feel about this?

i think that is a ridiculous assumption. seeing as i love backcountry and urban, i desire to see the sport pushing in both directions, and i'm sure it will keep doing so. have you been living under a rock? two of the most groundbreaking urban segments were released this year.

In my opinion, they're 2 completely different things... You're saying the equivalent to something like "Oh too many people are hitting jumps, more should start jibbing." It's generally the same ideas and riders, and they CAN do both. It's all opinion.

I think that backcountry skiing is getting more and more popular, but I do not think park will ever go away. The way that Wallisch, Dumont, B.Brown, etc. have been and are pushing the park/pipe/jump scene is the same way that Benchetler, Pettit, etc. are pushing backcountry.

if anything freeskiing is becoming a more all around category.

Dude it doesnt matter how other people are skiing becuse you will always be able to ski the way you want to hence the name " FREE STYLE". Skiing is what you make it and if you enjoy the way others are skiing then thats sick, feed off them and continue doing what you love. But honistly im so sick of seeing kids making threads becuse they dont like how others are skiing. If kids wana throw triples then let them, if they wana shred endless pillow lines thats dope to. But stop making stupid fucking threads about the way other people are pushing the sport its pointless/useless.

Look at this website... Then tell me that the freesking community is going toward big mountain? Not saying that Newschoolers is park oriented, but we all know it is. This website is the future and the people on it are the future. Sean Pettit is the only really really good big mountain skier under 21 right now. While there are probably 50 amazing park skiers under 21.

There are only so many ticks that can be done on skis but millions of of lines that can be skied. Big mountain is the essence of skiing and i feel its good that people are combing both with throwing tricks in the middle of lines. That were i feel newschoolskiing is going. And i would have to say that big mountain is funner to watch then park...

Urban use to be ok, but now its to the point that you dont even have to have snow anymore to do it, its just like its July, and people are throwing down urban seshes without snow. Kinda rediculous, but idk. I only ski big mountain and pow, and thats just my thing. But it seems like park skiing and urban skiing is getting to the point where its not even skiing anymore, I mean like 8 ouf 10 park skiiers arnt even wearing jackets anymore and are bringing daily clothes and stuff into skiing, its like its not even skiing anymore. But thats just my opinion.

To the OP, where did you get the idea that park skiing is dying out? Can you give some examples? It seems like one of the most unbased, untrue, and ridicoulous statements i've heard in a while.

I personally love watching BC jibbing like Tim Durtschi, Eric Pollard, Pep Fujas, LJ (in Japan), and Dylan Natale.
I LOVE urban and park but if I could only ski and watch one type though I would choose BC Jibbing

i agreee i dont enjoy watching back country and big mtn as much as urban and park.. it gets boring after liike 20 segments of guys hitting pillows and always doing 3's and switch 5's

haha goes to show how little you know. go watch old ski movies (1242 and before that)and go watch some old edits to get educated before making yourself look like a jackass. urban being hit with no snow has been around and was always rampant but kids like you who would rather hate then learn fail to see that. but then again, why the fuck do you care how others enjoy skiing?

Um...in case you haven't noticed, backcountry came first, then park skiing. all that is happening is that stuff that is progressing in the park is being used in the BC. Chill out.

I think everyone should just go with whatever flow they want and dont bitch about it so much it's almost like just because someone has 3xl shirt on and hiking the park all day doesn't mean that everyone should think a racer with a skinny suit on is a stupid person because of what they like to ski
