Unbelievable Shop Employee

Got some bigger boots so i went in to have my bindings remounted an i hand my skis to the guy and he says,(Now................ which end is the front?)............ and then asks,"what number i like my skis at" referring to the DIN. FACEPALM. Sure enough i didn't have them do the remount haha.


Any one have any crazy stories about dumb shop employees?

shit happens all the time. i went in to future shop a couple months ago because i needed a 2gig ram card, but it had to be the short output (SO-DIMM), which is the ram that laptops and most macs use, and when i asked if they had any the dude was like 'uhhhh, all the ram is right there'. 'yeah so, which is the short output?' and he starts reading packages and then says 'BRB gotta get my fellow employee for a quick consult' who also didn't know

world is just full of bullshitters. i think im the only person who actually takes pride in knowing things when i work someplace. i've spent a lot of time working retail and you would never come up to me with a question (and a very basic one, at that) that would leave me completely stumped..

same. I try to master everything about my work. When I first started a job in retail, I annoyed the hell out of some coworkers for the first few days because I wanted to learn it all. Then for 2 years i worked after, I never had a single question or problem i couldn't figure out.

Gets a bit harder with Fenway park though, still don't know all the info...but thats why i toss drunks, though being a tour guide too would be awesome.

and if someone does drop a question that i can't answer, i don't bullshit the person for 10 minutes and struggle to figure it out. Just tell them you don't know, but you'll find someone who does.

it's a horrendous exaggeration, i know. but i mean, even people i worked with would just say whatever the customer wants to hear to have them buy something, as most people will do. feed out bullshit, let them eat it up, self back pat, success.

naw yeah i was just douching around, i feel you. a couple of my jobs have been infuriating because not even the boss seemed to care about telling me everything i needed to know, had to twist their damn arm into telling me the most basic answers to questions i would hear every day

lots of the time i would be an avid supporter of the whole 'get rich with minimum effort' mentality, but  not shit that involves people. what does it hurt you to know things, and especially when it can really benefit a customer. i'd feel terrible thinking that i sold someone something that was trash just because i made them feel it was the right thing, or ripped someone off after a shoddy ski tune..

Nice thing about boarding is you don't need to go to a shop for anything unless you break the thing. I can't believe how clueless some shop employees are. The good thing is that there are plenty of real legit people working at shops who know whats up.

Working down in Houston, I understandably get hee haw ever done, or even attempted on my ski's here....  just wait until im in Breck etc...  it just isn't worth the risk and/or time to explain shit...

dude honestly thats not so bad, its funny tho.

in my opinion its worse when the person thinks that they know everything and try to talk down to you just because you have twins instead of $1000 racing skis.

i had it one time when i came into a shop to have my bindings mounted and i asked for them to do a 3+ setting, the guy laughed almost and told me not to and proceeded to give me a 2 setting. cool man

i think that is different than being a shop employee though. I am currently working in the sporting goods department at the local Mills Fleet Farm which is 90% hunting and fishing. Stuff like what you just said happens all the time to me. Im a skier/snowboarder, not a hunter. Its hard to learn everything about every product in a huge ass store.

I can see if it's your first board. The scary thing for snowboard mounting(could be shop done, the dumb kids, or some of both) When I used to teach I saw some scarily terrible binding placements. It amazed me. what do you do, just give them something that looks pretty good for them? They probably meant they've played ssx for 5 years, or watched the xgames.




Who pays somebody to screw in 8 screws. I do bring board in sometimes to get miracle fixed so I can still ride it.

What kind of shop employee think that a 15 inch stance width is perfect, lots apparently.

I went into a shop one time, to get a stick(or a package of sticks) of p-tex because I had to repair some dings in my board. The guys in the shop there, just gave me a couple stick for free. I was pumped.

For the record, it was Ski & See on Ft. Union Blvd. in SLC.

Somehow I got on the topic of big mtn skiing with a local guy at a shop here in steamboat. He argued that "you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, dumb shit. I ski about 60 miles from here. SICK back country, idiot. Don't even talk. Jackson Hole doesn't even have good big mountain in bounds fool."



Ya. I still payed him for the tune. Idiotic guy though.

I once got a pair of skis remounted, they called me 2 days after they said they would be done and say hey your skis are done! Me being super pumped drive down there grab em and drive home as fast as possible. I put my boots on, go to click into the bindings and they just dont go in. Turns out they had done absolutely NOTHING , simply took my skis boots and money and had them sit in a corner for a week.


I go back saying WTF, they are like o shit sorry. They take them again. I try to pick them up on the way out of town to go to university for the beginning of the year, they fucking had them at another shop to do the tune, I had to wait in the store for a whole hour while they drove my skis and boots down, even though I explicitly stated I wanted to pick up my gear at that location at that exact time.

ahh fuck goofy haha, typin too fast.

I usually set em up at around 12-15 degrees in front and negative 8-10 degrees in the back, it can change though depending on what they tell me. I don't charge em, I usually just do it on the counter so they can see how I do it and show em how to adjust the bindings themselves so they dont have to keep coming in if they want adjustments.

ok, I work in IT and fix computers all the time. i have never ever heard somebody call SODIMM ram 'short output'. i know it stands for that but I'm really not surprised he gave that reaction.
