I don't think terrorism should play a part in debating Qatar's suitability to host the World Cup in 2022.
Unless you can demonstrate a real / impartial understanding of the situation in the middle east, i think its really stupid to factor in the threat of terrorism in this debate (ie if you base your argument on information from fox news cnn etc) your graph and 'fun facts' where useless btw. Sorry for coming across as arrogant.

I think its great that Qatar will be hosting the World Cup, way to rep the middle east, Football (Soccer) is truly a global sport.

I can't help but to laugh at this. Its the world cup for fucks sake. Regardless of where its location is gonnna be, Its still going to happen and you still get to watch all the countries teams battle it out to be deemed the real world champions of football.

my thoughts exactly. the US shouldnt have it because no one really cares about soccer here.

obviously thats a generalization. i'd say there are about 23 people who watch soccer other than the world cup.

Qatar has 20% of the population below the poverty level, yet ranks 18th in GDP per capita. Qatar is one of the lowest spenders on education in the world, ranked at 116. Qatar has a literacy rate of about 76%. Qatar has also had a significantly declining GDP as of the past 2 years, and oil production is at a 30% decline than in the past decade. (all of these courtesy of the CIA factbook)

Qatar is an oil nation state. Meaning hardly any of the people see revenues from the very elite in the country. Meanwhile, Australia and Russia have numerous large cities capable of sustaining and entertaining a large influx of people. Not to mention both countries care about their national infrastructure, not just the boundaries of Doha where international business is conducted and outside the people are left on their own. Meanwhile Dubai and Doha are building unsustainable projects that will run out of cheap energy and funding once oil production slows down.

I'm just so annoyed by the choice...

I'd have been totally fine with a middle eastern nation's bid if it was in a country that was fucking established... Saudi Arabia? I'd have been alright with that... they have a football culture, and CITIES... PLURAL...

not only that, but they seem to be a little bit more chill with the western world (they own half of it anyway with their oil money haha) and, besides mecca (where you cant go to unless you're muslim anyway), have a few large enough cities to accommodate the event, and they surely have plenty of money to throw around.

If Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE all had a joint bid, I might understand the decision a little more... but in a nation that has far less than 2 million people? no football culture, and a team who's biggest headline is that they missed a wide open goal by banging it off the post?

Qatar just found the only way to get their team into the world's biggest stage... and its sickening... because they will almost surely go 3 and out... and what's worse, is they leave one less spot for a team that's at least fucking competitive...

South Africa at least has players in europe, has a footballing culture to an extent, and is the fastest growing economical spot on their continent - much less their region.

Qatar is not the fastest growing economy in the middle east.. (its fast, but not fastest), it has no culture, and I dont see 12 years being enough time for that to change...

If a middle eastern country got 2026 or 2030, i wouldnt have been annoyed... but if the USA was not going to get it, then Australia surely should have... They've put on big events like the 2000 olympics, and 1956 olympics, as well as rugby's world cup shit... they at least HAVE stadiums built, (they'd need to be made bigger/retrofitted to host the event bigger/strike a deal with rugby to use stadiums...) and they have a decent team, and a league, that.. though isn't even on the level of the MLS, is still more developed than qatar's league...

I know that some things i might be saying about qatar might be a little ignorant... who knows... they might be chill with liberating booze during the world cup... they might be more cultured in football than I know... but are they qualified to host a world cup? I dont think so... not when so many other countries are more qualified....

I dont care if juninho plays in their league now... qatar's a horrible decision.

How quickly people forget that the U.S. was ripped on when they were awarded WC 94. They didn't even have an outdoor soccer league at the time. But the WC led to the establishment of the MLS and a bigger popularity here. I'm confident having the WC in Qatar can do wonders for that nation and the Middle East, similar to the U.S. in 94. . I think 2022 will be a great WC

Fun fact about Bahrain

(My friend is stationed there in the Navy)

Soldiers in Bahrain get extra pay, something like high risk pay, because it is considered dangerous. But the last solider killed there was something like 8 or 9 years ago. And that solider committed suicide.

Why danger pay? Maybe because the weather could be dangerous?

Who knows.

No, it's because every time you deploy to an AOR (Area of Responsibility, aka place where the mission is happening) you get paid extra for all kinds of silly things.  It's a clever way to pay people more, otherwise fucking nobody would stay in and deploy for a year.

Oh ok, makes sense. My friend though sits in an air conditioned apartment all day and makes sure the server is working for the internet for the group stationed there. So for him he is getting hazardous pay, but really no one is dying, he doesn't go outside, etc haha
