Replying to Let me tell you the most beautiful story I've ever heard
A man is out in the deep forest one day when he comes across a dog. The dog is thin, wild looking, almost wolfish its so feral. The dog sits and stares at him, unblinking, boring into his soul as he returns its gaze. The man says to himself "I know this dog, I understand him" and when he turns to walk back home, the dog follows.
The mans wife hates the dog. It doesnt like anyone else other than the man, never pants, wags its tail, and just stares as a silent observer. It never eats what is set out for it, instead hunting small animals out in the forest around their home. "Its unnatural, send it away." But the man does not. "I like him" the man says. And the dog returns his look, eye to eye, always.
One day the man takes his float plane out across the lake and takes off, headed for town. The dog comes with him, sitting in the copilots seat, unafraid and peaceful despite the noise and rattling of the plane. A short time later, the plane is knocked by a storm, and the man realizes he must attempt to make an emergency landing. It does not go well. As parts of the plane burn and smoke high on a desolate mountain pass, the man looks at himself where he has been thrown, and realizes that his injuries are bad. He will not be able to get out, and no help is coming, and will die slowly of exposure out in the rainy cold. The dog is miraculously unscathed, its wild nature or wolf-ancestors helping to keep it alive. As the man leans back from where he rests, the dog comes to him and sits in front of him, never blinking, never a sign of emotion across its face. It gives the man some little comfort to have his one understanding friend close as he slowly dies. Some time passes.
And then the wolflike dog slowly leans forward, eyes still locked on the man, and slowly closes its teeth around the mans bloody leg, and rips away a small part of flesh.
"Well," thinks the man, "at least neither of us is going to starve."
