Anyone else listen to records besides me? I've always had a turntable and a couple records to throw on now and again, but recently i've been buying a shit ton due to a new coworker also working at a used record store here in town.

my current favorite purchase:

Nothing is better than listening to an entire record straight through without skipping a song. And i don't care what you say, vinyl does sound better than anything else.

I was just about to make a thread about this but decided not too.  I too collect vinyl and have all Zeps, Abbey Road, some floyd (Moon, Atom Hearth Mother Suite) All-Man Brothers and other random old ones.

I have most of the Animal Collective LPs, Bob Marley Legend, Black Keys Rubber Factory, Panda Bear Person Pitch, Viva La Vida, all Broken Social Scene, Bon Iver, The Arcade Fire, Death Cab and Postal Service, and every single Explosions in the Sky.....yes call me Os coxae-ster.

Or realizing that it produces better and more clear sound. It's ok everyone will hate on it just because lil Wayne isn't on it. It's all about the music with vinyl, no computer enhanced shit that people just buy to roll around in their little hondas with their 12 inch subs ratteling their car apart. I am with and I am most definitly not a hipster.

dude i've bought 25 records in the past week for under $80. and $20 of that was spent on two LP's. sure it's not quite as cheap as stealing it all off the internet, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than going out and buying cds or downloading shit off itunes.

also instead of shooting your i'll just tell you: IV-Led Zeppelin
one of the greatest records of all time imo.

i'm just seeing if anyone else on NS collects/stoked on some new stuff i just got, not bragging by any means. if i listed off what i had to any real collector they would most likely laugh in my face.

and sorry you feel that way about JJ, i just ended my night with the back side of brushfire fairy tales and i couldn't have asked for a better closing soundtrack.

ive got a dece turn table, and a few milk cartons of records... they are my dads, i think ill listen to a few like the beatles and MJ ahha when i get home....

I have a bunch, but most are completely different. got some wu tang, danger doom, dizzy gillespie, chuck mangione, pink floyd (dark side of the moon and wish you were here), I think some charlie parker, and 5 or so others I can't remember. definitely should get some more. sounds so good

Vinyl is the way to know if the artist actually had talent. All songs on vinyl are recorded once, without special effects. I like vinyl.

personally i wouldn't just for sentimental values sake, but you're sitting on a gold mine.
originals of Abbey Road, White Album and Rubber Soul are all worth upwards of $300 to the right people if they're mint or near mint.

and seriously, if anyone wants to get rid of any, hit me up. i'm down to buy some off you or trade you for some ski shit. haha

Ha ha sorry man but no.  Next to my EP pros they are the only things i truly care about in my life.  Each album is like a snapshot of a memory of my life.

For those looking to buy new'is vinyls hit up Amazon.  Sadly I live in a place where the nearest record store is 2 hours away, so whenever I go to a big city i love going hunting.

nice, my buddy has first pressings of LZ I-III, white album, Sgt Pepper, The Hendrix Experience, and a few others. he has one crate on his wall that has those and other first pressings in it worth 4 or 5k minimum.

my entire collection is jazz albums and singles. jazz recordings sound so baller on a nice table.
my favorite record though is DFA1979 You're A Woman, I'm A Machine. I've played it so many times that its nearing the end of its life.

I have access to a bunch of cheap vinyls as the town I live in has loads of charity shops so there are some good finds around. The only problem is that I don't have a decent turntable - used to when I shared a house with a local radio DJ but he left.

Any suggestions for pretty cheap equipment thatll give good enough sound for a noob like mesel?

Does anyone have an advice on where the cheapest place is to get a record player (preferably new)? I broke my parents when I was like 5 cause I thought i could spin it back and fourth like a DJ. I know, Im a crappy son.

Vinyl in no way has better sound. in fact the quality decreases every time you listen to it. If you listen to uncompressed studio quality music files with decent speakers you will agree. However, if you get all of your music out of torrents they're compressed and quality is lost. Idk if you can get uncompressed from itunes or not but same deal there. If you rip a CD to the computer it sounds dope because its studio quality
