How do you zoom in/out with out losing focus with t2i?

Well, i'm guessing you're posted up, standing still, hopefully on a tripod. Zoom in where you want to zoom in, focus, and then zoom out and in most cases as long as your subject is in the same focal plane as where you zoomed into, it will be in focus when you zoom out. Otherwise, you'd have to pull focus while you zoom if you're trying to zoom in on something in a different focal plane.

It will be a lot easier with a narrow aperture.

What they said, plus as you zoom in you have a shallower area that's in focus.

Yeah but you'll lose the shallow DOF that everyone loves(overrated) after f8-11

mhmm. plus then you'll potentially be shooting at a lower shutter with a zoom lens which is never fun if it's to slow.

i know some of you have helped me in the past, would the sigma 18- 50 2.8 be narrow enough aperture?

yes. As mentioned before set your f-stop around 8ish

Well 35mm adapters add a very nice film look and i like being able to use different lenses for different looks. I mean, obviously i want nice shallow DOF for things but i mean since the t2i and 7d kids only care about shallow DOF.

I'd like to have an f 1.8 accurate auto focus... would look so killer with impossible looking follow shots, and camera moves

except when you're getting below f/4 you start losing total focus of a subject that big.

nah man, ever since 35mm adapters came out one of the main selling points has been shallow DOF, the manufacturers always made a point of mentioning it in the product description. it only seems like kids are going crazy now because it's affordable.

to OP, everybody else pretty much covered it. but one of the downsides to DSLR video is that zooming is really difficult and just doesn't work that well. Pretty jerky on even some really nice lenses

I meant more the kids on NS, obviously shallow DOF has been desired forever.
