My local slope shut down, so it just wasn't viable any more. Used to love it though, unfortunately there was always the rich kids that you were never going to beat, the ones with lift ski's, practise run ski's and race ski's.... :(
I quit pretty early. I just didnt like the commitment to having to ski what they told me for the whole weekend. I am very glad that I did race though, built an awesome foundation for my skiing.
I got tired of being told when and where I was going to ski, and how often i had training. I missed being able to go skiing with other friends on weekends instead of road tripping to races over and over again. I now ski on my terms BIATCH
raced competitively 2nd grade through 7th
stopped because i just got bored of it. every saturday and sunday every weekend of winter for 6 hours.
plus i was wrecking kids ahah.
now i race for my high school team. #2 on the team.
looking to make it to states this year
the rich kids with 37 pairs of skis that make fun of you for only having one pair of strait skis, although beating those kids was always the best. i just didnt like the assholes and skiing the same run 30 times a day.
eh mostly because i was skiing 5 days a week freshman year training every day and i still wasn't the best. It was too much commitment for what i was getting out of it and moved to park and skiercross.
I probably would have raced my whole life if my parents were down to pay the insane amount of money it costs. Instead I bought twin tips and they let me have fun with my friends doing whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, for free.
i'm not saying this to be cocky so don't get that impression but my last and second to last year of racing(i raced for 6 or 7 years total) i won every single GS race i entered in my region. that simply wasn't fun. i barely tried in practice, i went to many practices on my twin tips, and the rest of my time was all spent in the park so i figured instead of being bored racing i might as well ride park all the time since i had such a good background and foundation for any type of skiing because of racing. last season i switched to all park, i went from the race to freeride team on my mountain and it was the best decision i have ever made. i get to go out every morning and ski where and how i want, no longer having to turn where i'm told to. so much more fun.
i got an opportunity to coach, never once did I think that racing wasn't fun, I loved ripping down a GS course. So now I coach racing, its a pretty cool job
