Replying to Buying a new computer. Zero knowledge at all. Need Help

So i have been saving up for a while now and i plan on buying a new mac. I dont know anything about computers really and i want to know which one will be best for me...
I will probably be making a few edits with it.
Ill use it for school work and casual use. (like NS and stuff)
Nothing incredibly serious, but i dont want a piece of shit.
I dont know anything about memory or how fast a computer will run or anything like that. I also will be want editing software and other good programs like photoshop.
sorry for my ignorance about computers, i never really put the time into learning about them.


so basically what im asking is for a little lesson on macs regarding how they will function differently and which one i should get along with what programs i should get with it.
my price range right now is around 1200 but that can change
and i dont mind buying a used one either.
