So i have been saving up for a while now and i plan on buying a new mac. I dont know anything about computers really and i want to know which one will be best for me...
I will probably be making a few edits with it.
Ill use it for school work and casual use. (like NS and stuff)
Nothing incredibly serious, but i dont want a piece of shit.
I dont know anything about memory or how fast a computer will run or anything like that. I also will be want editing software and other good programs like photoshop.
sorry for my ignorance about computers, i never really put the time into learning about them.
so basically what im asking is for a little lesson on macs regarding how they will function differently and which one i should get along with what programs i should get with it.
my price range right now is around 1200 but that can change
and i dont mind buying a used one either.
10/10 k for answers

get a 13inch macbook pro for 1199. They are a pretty solid laptop using the intel i3 cpu, 4gigs of memory and a 320gig hard drive. The battery life is better than most pc's and they make more out of the components than a pc does so you see smoother and higher performance

Except you'll never want to throw your computer out of the window out of frustration.

Are you really sure you want a mac. You can get a PC that runs windows and is probably way faster than a mac for around 700 bucks. But if you really insist on getting one probably go with the MBP 13 inch

As far as general use goes, Windows is fucking slow. Just the little things like waiting forever for a program to open on my Fujitsu makes me want to pull my hair out. The Mac boots in a few seconds and when I click a program, boom. Open.
I use both a ton due to work, not a fan of my Windows PC anymore and they have practically the same specs.

yeah thanks guys. I am done with all other computers. I really love the track pad on macs and how much easier they are to maneuver.

Windows and fast don't exactly go in the same sentence together.

Well if you now how to keep the shit off your computer it runs just fine. Ive had my PC for a year or two and its just as fast as the day i got it. Im not hating on macs just trying to make him compare all his options.

I'll post this but I know I'll get flak for it since this sight is loaded with fan boys from both sides.
The only reason why computers fail and progressivly get slower over time is directly because of the user. Just like anything else if you don't maintain it, it will die. I've seen it on both mac and windows computers. I see more on windows but I see it worse on some macs because people think they are impervious to destruction so they surf the net worry free.
Too many toolbars in your browser you'll never fucking use. All they do is watch you browse and mine data off of your habits to send back to their company. Too many illegally accuired programs that require system file mods and they fuck em up. Too much porn.
P2P programs!!!! FUCK! these really get me. If the file is 11kb, the name is "JUSTIN BIEBER - UNRELEASED SONG 2010" and it has 0 users downloading it, don't go near it!!!!! Why? #1, don't listen to bieber. #2 IT'S A TRAP! What song have you ever downloaded that was 11kb in size? I send text messages bigger than that for fucks sake.
I watch people literally click on every single brightly colored ad/link/pop up and then they wonder why their shit doesn't work.
With that said... Unless you have a program that you want to use that is OS specific, just use PURE LOGIC in your decision. I built my PC based on an alienware configuration from about 2 years ago. The only difference is that I don't have glowing eye balls on the front of my case and I opted out of the liquid cooling system... I saved $1100 building it myself. Let that sink in a bit.

i jsut went on apple.com and built a "spec" comparable laptop as to the hp i just bought.
i paid $550 for a refurbished, about $950 new.
the 15" MPB with the same specs came to a grand total of... $2,128.00.
i honestly could not justify spending four times( or twice as much if you bought new) as much for a computer that only had a little more battery life, a "solid" operating system, (never had a problem with windows), and a fancy light on the back of my computer

Yea this says you know not much of computers, and not making fun, but as for what you should get, rendering and editing videos takes up a tonne of ram, so if possible try for 4 gigs. processor wise an i5 would be be awesome, but if that's not feasable a simple core2duo at around 2.4 Ghz should do the job.
Don't look to play any games on this though, as Laptop graphics aren't in any way suited for the torture of games.
And to those saying PC's are slow, stop sucking with computers.
Or, keep sucking, and buy an SSD to boot off of. Your Mac 'boot' times (which from what I see is just people booting it from sleep) can kiss my solid state ass.

http://store.apple.com/ca/configure/MC516LL/A?mco=MTc4OTEzNDY2.4 GHz 2core processor
2 GB RAM
250 GB Harddrive
2.53 GHz 2core processor
6GB RAM
640 GB Harddrive
Macs are terribly overpriced, shitty computers. Anyone who says PCs are slower needs to : stop watching so much porn, get more RAM, have less random virus-y programs on their computer. PCs only get slowed down so much because people who have no idea wtf they are doing end up clogging them up with useless shit like toolbars and trojans.
Websites like newegg.com have pretty legit sales on laptops fairly often, for video editing you probably want to aim for about 4 gb of RAM, a 2+GHz processor and at least 320 gigs of harddrive space. Get yourself a free antivirus like Avast!, don't go to a lot of sketchy website or download stupid things like the guy above me mentioned and you're set.
