I wanna hit lotsa rails.
but the skis i bought are 8 years old, but never used/still in original plastic.
so there's naturally rust from storage.
should i get them sharpened and then detune them?
or any advice?

yep, that'll be gone in one run. so i wouldnt sharpen them
disclaimer: i HATE sharp edges on rails, a trait that probably was influenced by skiing my first gen troublemakers into the ground and therefore getting used to sliding rails without an edge underfoot for a while..
still though, don't sharpen them for the rust reason alone

You want dull edges if your hittin' rails or boxes. Sharp edges catch nicely and throw you front seat!

Thanks guys. 2002 Armada AR5s.
Maybe I'll trade these gems mid-season.
If anyone has Afterbangs they want to trade, let's keep in touch.

I wouldn't mount those or anything. Just keep them on your wall. You can easily find some urban skis cheap somewhere.
