Holiday Valley/KB Winter Stoke Thread

Basically I am from the area and frequent both hills. This thread is about overall stoke for the entire season, park updates, and mountain reports (conditions).

I just heard holiday is trying to open up next week and I am pumped!

I just got back from a 3 day trip at HV. I thought I would share some opinions:
1) Eagle is officially ruined. The Morning Star high-speed quad has tripled the line for Eagle, plus now there are pizzas making their way down Eagle all the time. The new lift didn't even add anything to Morning Star. The run is now flat at the bottom and you need to carry speed. The only upside is a little more tree skiing. Biggest disappointment around.

2) You New Yorkers need to get on management's case about the park. The lack of resources thrown at the park is disgraceful. More cat/snow making time needs to be given to the park. How does a resort that large only have one park open? On top of that, there is only one jump that is hittable (I refuse to xc from snoozer to sunrise). HV is stuck in 2000. I'm sure the park crews are as frustrated with management as I am.

3) WTF is up with all the GoPros? I saw probably over 50 helmet cams. I see gapers filming fucking everything! They film themselves skiing down Mardi Gras. Oh yeah, I can't wait to watch you shred that hill...

I don't want this to sound like a complete hate filled rant. It's just easier to write about what went wrong versus what was right. I still had a great time. The lines weren't bad for it being holiday season. Also, a little heads up, if you ski the trees between fiddlers elbow and moonshadow, there is a log sticking out from a little drop. Carry enough speed and you can ride the log and treat it as a cannon.

1) The run under the morning star chair lift is now one of my favorites on the whole resort. The lines are usually fine when its not the retarded holidays so nbd. 

2)Yes HV is slow but I am so glad the main park was not open because all of you gaper tourists would have ruined it anyway just like you did with the rest of the mountain this week. Also there is more than enough snow to put up the main park on firefox but they keep making more just to make sure that they will have enough for when the gatorade free flow tour comes so they don't look like jackasses.

3) Didnt know GoPros were only for the likes of park skiers

4) Don't come back next time

I agree with 2&3.
HV has been my home hill forever, and I cannot understand how they can claim 4 parks being open, but only having 1 hit-able jump and a couple of rails set up in total. Even when firefox is completely set up, it's like playing frogger dodging gapers on the landings, and nothing is well-shaped or taken care of, unless HV is hosting a comp. Last year I starting going to bristol, and holy hell, they do shit right. An 8 jump line with everything from 15 to 55ft, perfectly shaped? Oodles of sick rails with perfect take-offs? The smoothest pipe I've ever hit on the east coast?
Twice the vertical of HV? I'm swayed.
I know HV cannot do some things bristol can do because of the size of the runs, but c'mon. Their current management is terrible IMO.

As for gopro's, I own one and always film with it, but I can understand where you're coming from. I just can't see how skiing at 7mph down mardi gras is film worthy, but to each his own.

mardi gras is sick to film on a go pro. Ill make sure when i go home ill film mardi gras and morning star to make an edit of pizza and french fries.

ill post up our dirty gopro edit from hv when it gets done. you wont be disappointed. i could see why people like them, theyre easy to use and filming is fun to do.

on the kb side of things, the park opened friday, but theyre closing it monday, tuesday and wednesday to make more snow and build the big jumps. overall, im super impressed with what they have up. huge improvement of last year

Haha i thought the same exact thing! I saw at least 4 gaper cruiser kids with Go Pros mounted on their helmets cruising around random ass trails. I did NOT see that coming! At least 2 more with the mount on and no camera. WOW!

Nice edit! I like how KB tapes off everything but the lip. I wish my home mountain did that. It would cut down on a whole lot of "OH GOD! WHY ARE YOU SKIING ON THE LANDING?! MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!"

kb every saturday, i only get a hour or two of park in cause my girlfriend said she would ski park, i got excited and got her to join my club, she hates it and now i have to give up most of my slope time to normal skiing though. you probably didnt notice me, i was there a few days ago saturday, line static hoodie. i hardly said anything cause you guys kill so hard its kinda intimidating lol i left with ian right after he knuckled the big air

can anybody tell me how KB park compares to bristol right now?...i haven't been to kb at all this season due to the fact that people tell me it sucks there. however they are all bombers and don't do park anyways. holiday is meh also.

Hey im heading down to holiday valley next week from Ontario.  Thursday to Saturday.  Never been there in my life.   Just wondering what they have there in terms of a park.  Thanks!

Their parks are mad nice right now (before the big warmup). The big park currently has 3 diff. rails going into a 30-35ish ft jump, into the big stepup-type jump. There are also some other rails to the side, along with a quarter pipe near the bottom. The two jumps are real smooth if you get the speed right (the first jump doesn't require much speed, but you need to BOMB into the second one to clear it. In the smaller park, they have a couple smooth, but smaller jumps along with smaller rails. Lastly, the rail park has plenty of fun hits with a big hip at the top.

no idea, BUT, we hiked it sunday and the park was real good. and i heard from the man himself that everything is being reshaped. so at the very least, you can expect a decent park
