Arrested: Willie Nelson has been charged with possessing cannabis after his tour bus was stopped at a Border Control checkpoint
Country music legend Willie Nelson has been arrested for cannabis possession at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
He was allegedly carrying six ounces of the drug when his tour bus was stopped in Sierra Blanca, Texas as he travelled from California to Austin.
Police told local news station KVIA that Nelson's bus was stopped at 9am on Friday morning.
Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West told the station that Nelson was booked into the County Jail after a search discovered the drugs.
The 77-year-old posted a $2,500 bail and continued with the journey later the same day.
It is not the first time Nelson has been arrested for drug possession.
In January of this year, six of Nelson's band and crew members were stopped in North Carolina for allegedly possessing moonshine and cannabis in a vehicle they travelling in. They were issued with citations.
And back in 2006 Louisiana authorities searched Nelson's tour bus and found about a pound-and-a-half of marijuana and magic mushrooms.
