Passing Cars in The Right Lane

This right lane passing thing is starting to pick up. People who pass in the left lane just do it, they don’t’ have fun. Driving’s just changing and people need to get with it, it’s the new thing

i dont think you understand how the highway system works. drive on the right pass on the left. thats state law in most states. if you're cruising in the left lane when the right lane is open and multiple people are passing you to the right you need to get the fuck out of their way and into the right lane where you belong.

I hate when u try and pass them and at the same moment u switch to the right lane they try and get out of the way forcing you to slam the breaks.

one of my friends who is a notoriously terrible driver dragged the 4 of us in his car through a quad lane dip once.

one of the most frightening experiences I've ever had in a car.

And passing in the right lane for me is a great rarity. Only occurs when someone is doing well under the limit.

This for sure. There is no reason to run in the left lane unless it's really crowded. Stay right and pass left people, it's just that easy.

I also very much enjoy the highway partner of high speeds. I purposely let them pass sometimes just to take turns leading, and then I do feel sad when we finally part ways. Anyone ever follow your highway buddy all the way to your destination??? Happened to me going to woodstock 99.

i actually LOVE when this happens. ive been driving for a quite a few years now so the initial excitement linked with driving is gone so now its harder to find excitement while i drive.

when you start dangling with another car on the highway, especially if you both have a similar type of cars, its epic. when this happens on a 3+ lane highway i always just try to take different lanes than him and just dangle around and turn it into a type of race (nothing dangerous, i am always very careful and always in full control of the car and i anticipate shit extremely well) and when its on a 2 lane highway its all about speeding by everyone and taking turns leading ahaha

I take 91 to 95. It blows. Your surronded by Asian bus drivers and Long Island weekenders.
As soon as I get into the Pelham Bay area just north of The Bronx I get all jammed up. Ive been taking the Hutchinson Pkwy lately and thats a little better.

I'll be damned if I'm going to sit behind someone going 66 mph in a 65 mph zone in the left lane. I will come rushing up on your bumper and ride it for a few seconds. If you don't get the fuck out of my way, then I am going to pass your ass on the right and probably flip you off as I pass you.

I fucking hate people that do not understand the concept of the "fast" lane.

Please explain further, sounds kinda like you rear ended someone and you're trying to pass the blame.

And brenone yes, 87 is cake, and I actually go all the way up to glens falls and lake george before I cut over on 149 to 4 east. The worst part though is before all of that.....I drive all the way across jersey on 78. Jersey.....by far the worst drivers in the whole US of A. Must be a jersey thing.

i just had an experience yesterday, hit a bit of traffic on the highway, i was in the right lane, going 10 over, while everyone else was in the two left lanes going like 15-20 under because of traffic, i literally switched lanes twice in about 30+ minutes to pass someone who was actually in the proper lane. i was haulling ass past everyone. god people are so fucking dumb.

then later on, there was an accident, where traffic slowed, just your average accident situation, slow down, get past it speed back up. well about a mile after the accident, there was a huge line of cars in the left lane literally going under 40 in a 75, nobody in the right lane, hardly any traffic, and clear road ahead. i just flashed my brights and held my horn past the 20 or so cars. i just dont understand how people can be so fucking retarded. incidents like this are like an every day thing. its just pathetic.

nope. car in front slammed on their brakes at 40+ mph to a complete stop to make a stupid turn they missed, car in front slammed on her brakes, went into breakdown lane to avoid destroying the front car and luck would have it, i did the same exact thing as her. i end up re-ending her but she was fine and no damage to her car, but mine with the front end to get the damage, ended up totaled. we both were easily a car length deep past that other car when we came to a stop. if we hadn't done what we did, that car would most likely be full of very injured kids who were noticeably fucking around in their over packed car with no seat belts on.

when you're driving down a 40mph speed limit road you need to leave 4 car lengths between you and the front car but honestly no one fucking does that. do you want to know why? its because you don't expect some car full of idiot kids to go from 40 to zero in two seconds down a quiet road when there's usually no traffic.

no shit, reason why we were both able to slam on our brakes but still able to see that the breakdown lane was the best choice instead of slamming into the back of the car full of retards. it was a short drive back with just me in the car so really no distractions there bud. i bet a thousand bucks that you drive exactly how i do and if you don't, then you're driving the exact speed limit, one car length at every 10 mph, both hands on the wheel at all times and you NEVER talk to anyone else in your car or look away from the road at anytime. i consider myself i safe driver by always being aware but you know, shit happens and it doesn't matter how safe you drive.

yeah honestly you can drive llike 100 yards behind every car just to be safe, but thats retarded. shit happens, 99.9% of people would rear end someone if they suddenly decided to slam the brakes for no fucking reason.

learn to drive? by checking that the lane is open before you enter it? get a clue.......

sometimes the traffic in the right lane flows faster than the left or the middle, should people hit their breaks and not proceed? People like you that blindly change lanes or ride in the left lanes while traffic passes them on the right are the problem. take the bus next time, then you won't have to worry about anyone going faster than you on the right.

Nothing wrong with passing in the right lane.

Idiot American drivers who think its okay to sit at 5 miles below the speed limit in the leftmost lane should be able to be passed on the right.

For those of you that have driven in Europe, you know that driving is taken seriously and that people know that if they're not gonna be driving fast, to stay in the right lanes instead of clogging up the left. Theres nothing wrong in taking the initiative and passing an idiot that doesn't know how to control a car at high speeds because of the shitty job of driver's training they do here in the US.

Sometimes passing on the right is just necessary.

My new driving strategy since getting 4 points on my license this summer is to set the cruise control in the left lane at 9-10 over and wait for someone to rush up on me. When they get to me I move over to the right lane and let them pass me. Then I drive my desired speed without worrying about getting a ticket.

Pretty sure I know where both my mirrors are located and use them frequently. If People like yourself actually knew the rules of the road and to move to the right when someone faster comes up behind you, this discussion would not be happening. No matter what way you put it, I know I am right, you're supposed to pass on the left, yeah if someone doesn't move over after a minute i'll scoot around them on the right, but using the right lane as the fast lane? You are plain fucking stupid, and so obviously American it hurts..

sitting behind slow people in the passing lane only makes the problem worse, and more dagerous. it stacks up cars, basically turning the left lane into the driving lane and the right lane into the passing lane.
yeah ill do my best to pass on the left whenever i can, but if after flashing my brights and honking they still dont get over, im passing on the right, i dont wait more than like 5 seconds. and if its a train of dumbfucks in the left lane, im definitely going to pass on the right.

the only reason you should have to pass on the right is because of someone being in the left lane who shouldnt be. passing on the right isnt causing the problem.
