Take some sort of opiate(Vicodin,Percocet), before you go skiing to help with the pain. The opiates might make you a little tired and out of it, so I would suggest some amphetamines to keep you going like a small dose of dextroamphetamine, or mixed amphetamine salts like 10 or 20 mg. Take small doses at first, then more if needed. Always worked for me when I had an injury. Good luck

I would just lay low today.  Take ibuprofen or aleve if that works better, use Icy Hot.  If it feels like it is in complete spasm, there isn't much that you can do short of acupuncture.  I've had a screwed up back my whole life; when my back is in spasm, the burliest chiropractors can't adjust me.  If your back goes out frequently or at least regularly I would suggest buying a True Back  www.trueback.com.  It is the best remedy I have ever found and it cost less than a visit to the back quack or the acupuncturist.  I copied their design from their website and made my own garage version of it.  See my pics.  It works like a champ.  Hope this helps.

you know it seems like just taking a few days off sounds alot better than pumping yourself full of drugs....

haha yea taking such powerful painkillers for some backpain seems like somewhat of a bad idea..also i dont think mixing opiates with stimulants is a very good thing to do.

or save yourself a pill addiction and just take ibuprofen and go to the chiropractor

lay flat on your back on the floor with no pillows or anything. stretch a lot. take some ibuprofin. most importantly though, dont do anything to make it worse. if you go skiing youll probably make it worse and be out for longer so just chill for a little.

That sucks buddy. feel your pain. Shovelling can be a major bitch on your back. I threw out my back last summer tightening a clamp on a boring machine and could hardly breath or stand. Turned out that I basically popped two ribs out. That week sucked. I was on some pretty strong pain meds and muscle relaxants. I went to the Chiro for about 3 weeks after it happened. Still can feel em tryin to pop when Im tightening something or shovelling.

Yesterday was my 5th day on the slopes, on one jump, i double ejected on a 3 and hurt my thumb, I couldnt really use my poles and was super bumed, so i took the rest of the run, hit a rail and a dfd got close to kfed, so hiked it and tried again, then on my blind 2 out i stuck and flipped back and landed on pure ice, it felt so bad. I crawled to the side and then ski patrol came, I told them i was fine, but they came up to me and insisted on puting me on a backboard and taking me to the patroll house. I ended up taking an ambulance to the ER, after they kind of forced my parents into doing it, by saying "hes your son, and you should want the best for him..." I told them i felt good accept my lower back muscles, but they agreed and we payed $1,500 for an ambulance ride to the hospital. At the ER, i got x-rayed and what not, and they found nothing, all i had was a bruise on my back, and some minor hemoraging. This also happened 2 years ago, but i only bruised my tailbone. So basicly its my second time going to the ER without any problem and my family is $6,000 poorer. So any tips on back muscles would help, and has ski patroll ever taken you away against your will? im 17 btw so Im legaly a minor.

How exactly did they "insist" that you come with them?

Sounds like you have a serious case of pussyitis. I suggest you call an ambulence and have that checked out right away!
