There was a thread from back in October about this but now that it's actually out I'm making another. Who's gonna see this movie? It's a great story and James Franco is one of my favorite actors. Plus Danny Boyle is a genius of a director. Here's the trailer:

it's kinda weird to think about how he went through with actually amputating his own arm, and once he is finally through, he stumbles back and is "free" from the boulder.

they did an amazing job keeping it super intense and interesting for the whole movie though, all the visions, loosing his sanity, and basically showing very well what it would feel like to be in that situation.

it starts out in an upbeat mood then suddenly he's fucked, and it slowly gets worse and worse, and more depressing and crazy, then the last 15 minutes or so is intense as hell.

i thought it was an amazing movie, and nomatter if you think the guys an idiot or not (i happen to not think he's an idiot, just willingly taking an extra risk) it is probably the best movie out there that shows what its like to be in a situation like that, and what the body can go through and our will to survive.

Yeah Im going to be that guy. THis movie sucked compared to what the trailer seemed it would be. There was no flow, and way the story was told was painfully obvious. I know its a true story, so you have to tell it like it is, but I thought the directing just didnt pull it off. It was still a decent movie, and got the message across well, but it could of been much better.

I remember a story a while back where a guy got his arm stuck in his boiler in his basement, maybe that will turn that into a movie too.

yeah, i dont really think cutting off your arm really makes you a hero or anything. It would hurt like nobody could ever imagine, but in the end its probably worth living. its the mental struggle you gotta go through to get to the point where you would sever your own limbs slowly just to live that makes it such an incredible story.

this thread is comical. just saw the movie last night and it was incredible. even if he did tell people where he was going, chances are he would have still been stuck down there for quite some time, and may have even died just waiting for someone to show up as opposed to cutting off his arm. he hints in the movie that it would take at least 48 hours for him to be reported missing. he doesnt show to work the next day, boss knows where he is, missing person report filed and reported missing 24 hours after. also, to find this guy in the maze of a slot canyon would have taken forever.

i still think its stupid he didnt tell anyone where he was going, but regardless of his decision the situation sucked and he made it out alive.

the movie was amazing though. All about the will to survive and what a person is willing to do to ensure their survival. i highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy wilderness or outdoor themed movies. i wouldnt recommend going in on a full stomach though. the scene where he removes his arm is downright brutual, i honestly thought i was going to throw up.

ive said this before but i dont think his decision to not tell anyone was stupid at all. its hard to get 100% out of an "adventure" like that when you know you have a safety net. ive gone on hiking/camping trips for a couple days without telling anyone. I fully understand and accept the increased risk, but its a sacrifice im willing to take to really feel "alive" you really do get more out of it when you know your 100% relying on yourself. and everything you do is effected, it really is a noticeably better experience.

our reliance on others and technology really makes it hard to actually live. and for me, going out on my own for however long is one way i like to get away from that.

The movie was awesome and i have to give him props for cutting his arm off. That is some gnarly shit.

But i heard that he is kind of an asshole. I have a couple friends that have talked to him before the whole "chop your arm of with a knife from walmart" deal and he doesn't sound like a very good person. Not trying to rip on him, i still think he is one of the more manly people out there.

yea he me may dumb for not telling anyone where he was but he cut his own arm off. im sure there arent many people who could honstly say they would be able to do that. i cant wait to see it.

if you had read the book you would agree the guy is kind of an idiot. he has been on multiple solo trips into alaska, around colorados 14,000 ft peaks, and he gets into this kind of trouble quite a bit. Ya he cut his arm off but he didnt do it for 7 fucking days.

now i havent read any of the responses because its too long but I expected way more out of this movie, it was a huge let down. The beginning was good where he goes and bikes and goes into the underground pool but when he was trapped it sucked, it was all flash backs and i just expected way more out of the movie, like they spent too much time watching him be trapped. They should have done what happened after and more about him. I dunno, thats just my 2 cents  on the movie
