Final Cut Express Help

Just got this program today and am still trying to figure it out, but I'm having problems importing some clips into it. I have an AVCHD camcorder and do all the importing steps as needed, but it keeps stopping when the application queues the video for importing. I has a little red exclamation point in the little spinny circle thing. It has two options when I click the red ! and they are "retry" and "remove". Did I do something wrong with the formatting the first time you open the application? Please help me, +K to helpful answers.

I use pro, not express, and I havent used either in over a year...I feel like there was an import setting to import from a hard disk with no timeline, so it just captures the full video, not just sections. (if you wanted to section out your imports)

Something a long the lines of this, if I can remember.
I dont use express, but last year my friend did and he had issues capturing with his HDV cam (FX1000). But he had to capture each individual shot I think, re-check your capture settings and make sure its matched up to your type of footage. other than that I cant help much cause I dont use FCE. sorry
