Motion to ban "Auction" style FS threads on NS

We need to end the Auction style sale threads. They are stupid and annoying because they waste posts and pm's. In a real auction the best bid wins no matter what and there is generally a time limit on the sale. Here kids just use it to get a useless bid war going. If the person doesn't like the highest bid they just don't sell it to the person or they lie and say someone bid higher. You know how much you paid for the product and what you want to get for it so why not just post a price in your thread.

I think if NS should make it mandatory to have a price for all FS items. It will make the B/S/T forums better.

Most other forums I'm in require a price be added to the sale thread. It makes things go alot smother. And yes I always seem to get outbid on everything here.

these kids have been gettin rediculous, auctions for a month? if you going to wait that long to get the price high enough, just post how much you really want for it.

first of all you are wrong. Even on ebay if you dont like the price something sells for, you can remove the item post sale. And im not sure how putting a price on something would end bidding because everyone uses OBO it just makes sense...

Yea thats what I'm getting at. If they posted what they want for it then you would't have to pm them a price or ask what the current price is. You would just see what they want, then either leave the thread because you don't like the price or pm then to work something out.

but the reality is certain items on here are in high demand so that doesnt work. so later on if this happens everyone is going to complain that everyone's prices are too high again...

It's simple economics. If your prices are too high you won't be able to sell your product. You will have to then lower the price of your product to sell it.

no hate intended but to be honest i dont think there is anything wrong with a auction style thread.
lets face it we all pay too much for our gear so why not try to get the most you can...

sorry dumbass that if im selling i want to make money. i dont want the first low offer i get. youre dumb. and if you try and say set a price. then any offers i get under that price are basicly bids, like an auction. so you should prolly have good reasons to end them. your opinion is bias as well because youve been outbid a lot. thats life, grow some balls and get over it

about the auctions running for a month. if the person wants the item bad enough he can wait, if its not an essential, let the seller know its frustrating and that if he doesnt accept the offer, that the offer will be backed out of.

1) You can still make money without having an auction
2)You don't take the first low offer you get in an auction
3) Auctions only have increasing bids not decreasing bids so no its not like an auction
4) Touche on the bias comment

It just really doesn't make sense to have an auction type fs thread

The auction type sales are basically Feelers. A person is just trying so how much they can get for their product and they have may not even sell it if they don't get what they are looking for. It's a waste of time and space.

its not decreasing, it starts at a decrease from your price, and if you say no, it becomes an auction.

and on the feeler thing, everything is really a feeler, if you dont get the price you want, you dont settle with the next best offer automatically, and you keep the item or just decide to try another line of selling it

no, as long as there is a set price to begin with there is no problem letting people bid on an item. You've probably never sold anything on here in an auction style, you can make some serious cash. quite complaining, it doesn't do any harm to the forum

I usually don't try to make serious cash. I usually get hooked up with my gear so I usually give great prices to other members. So I guess I'll have to try it

Nice. Talking out of your ass must be fun.

On Ebay, the ending price is a binding contract. Also, you cannot end an item unless there is over a day remaining.

And I agree with the author. I guess you can chalk me up to the village idiot as well, then. Auctions are for Ebay. A selling forum is for set prices.

I think they should go too. there are too many shady kids on here overcharging for used stuff going back and forth haggling. they clutter up the forum, and usually have bad attitudes.

you want to have an auction and get top dollar? it's called EBAY numbnuts. you want to hook up a fellow NS member with a good deal or trade on some legit goods, then more power to you.
set a price, include a photo or two and detailed description, and don't be a douche stand by your word. word.

Let's just turn the B/S forum into a Newschoolers version of eBay!!
just kidding, kids on here aren't mature enough to enter into binding contracts.

If you want to buy items set at a price, go to a store.
If you want to bid on items in an auction, go to eBay.

For all things in the middle, (and ski related), go to Newschoolers.

Kids back out of supposed "solid offers" daily, and people retract items they put up for sale because they decided they want to keep them. Both sellers and buyers commit these trivial yet selfish/asshole-ish moves. You just have to remember that while dealing with b/s/t on here.

Now, I personally, wouldn't have a problem making b/s/t into a legit eBay format, binding contract, bidding auction, but I don't think most kids could handle it.


As for set prices, YA THE FUCK RIGHT hahahaha. What happens when you post a price way too high? or too low? The point of used/sometimes rare gear is that you don't know how much someone else would pay for it, so you give a price range and see what you can get.
