When I met Jarred "AllStar" Haynes my freshman year of college, we had no idea what we were going to be when we "grew up" but we knew two absolute truths: I love skiing and he loves music. Seven years later, the kid from Long Island is doing voice overs for Salomon, the ski company that invented the 1080 twin-tip ski, performing on the big stage at IF3 in Montreal and Annecy, France, and putting out ski-inspired mixtapes for free.
It's easy to forget that before, during, and after AllStar's involvement with our sport, he's a working producer, hip hop artist, and only took an interest in skiing after watching the trailer for Eric Iberg's WSKI 106 and watching edits on Newschoolers.com. Unlike us, skiing isn't his life. It's just one part of it. The other parts of his life are in his new mixtape, "The Best Lyricist Alive." If you're interested in music, take a listen, hear what he's saying, and enjoy some great music streamed for free on Band Camp.
Otherwise, check him out every Tuesday as the voice of Salomon Freeski TV.
Cheers NS,
Rogge
