How much waterproofing do you need?

So i just bought one of the Armada Lorenzo softshells, the spray one, and was wondering if thats going to be waterproof/breathable enough to use as my daily jacket. It states on the site as being 5k mm and 3k g, is that going to be ok?

Obviously it wont be my jacket for when i go waist deep pow in the BC, but will it hold up on whiteout day/really cold days?

5k isnt really much at all.
its a good jacket for like going out in if the weather is bad. its not the best jacket for STAYING out in


just got an arc-tyrex 3L goretex shell, now that thing will not let in a single bit or precipitation. it's litterally bomb proof

Will be skiing in France, Three Valley area. I will probably buy a nice jacket as well, but i cant decide whether to go with insulated or just a shell. Are first drop and saga shells or do they have some insulation?

First drop - insulated


Saga is meant for layering. First drop is an actual jacket.

I would invest in an actual jacket, so you arent wearing like 5 sweatshirts when it's cold out.

I wouldn't get anything less then 10k to use as a daily jacket on the slopes.

if you have a good shell and proper clothing to layer with, you dont need to wear 5 sweatshirts.

i've skied in freezing terrible conditions in a softshell, a sweatshirt, and underarmour

Thanks guys, i know i need to invest in some quality layers to begin with, and everyone does keep recommeding underarmour so i think ill get a long sleeve one as a base layer. I have some really good polo necks which might look less than dope, but god damn they keep my neck nice and warm instead of wearing a faggy bandana. On top of that itll either be a hoodie or a fleece depending.

At the moment i have that softshell and a northface jacket (before you laugh, its from last year and actually quite cool, black and grey colour scheme. Unfortunately was my parents money so it fits as it should instead of baggy). Northface hyvent is something like 15k/15k but it is quite old, but should do well in the harsh conditions.

Ill look at buying a nice shell for this winter, but american brands are too expensive to ship over the UK. What ones look cool this year, arent too expensive and available in the UK?

thats true. but a lot of people would be fine with 10 or 15k. a lot of times 20k isnt necessary at all. i went from a 20k suit last year to 10 and 15k this year, no noticable difference really.

why would we laugh? it doesnt matter what you look like dude, as long as your skiing. i hate that mentality. i wear regular fitting, technical close. im rocking an arc-tyrex stinger jacket. its fucking technical as shit, jet black, and fits me like a normal jacket.
