I go skiing in the mountains all the time and have a glorious time and don't believe in god.
The fact that it makes me excited shows that I have functioning biochemistry and I like adrenaline.
I don't believe Mankind is inherently good or evil. That is a large generalization and the truth is somewhere in between. I find the notion that someone without religion can't also be a good ethical person silly. Personally, I find it much more satisfying to be a civil human being to others simply because I can as opposed to doing it for some greater eternal reward.
Look, even though I don't believe, when I think about how I'm going to be dead, I can understand the appeal of an afterlife.
Though I don't believe, when I think about how large and robust our Universe is I can understand the appeal of believing that there is some governing force other than chaos and happenstance.
I always find the question "how can you not believe when you look at X, Y, or Z?" to be especially disconcerting because I could just as easily point to the same mountains and say "how could you possibly not believe in plate tectonics?" And while you may very well believe in plate tectonics driven by god I think you understand the picture I'm trying to illustrate.
We can discuss this until someone else does something silly and the thread gets deleted but quite frankly I don't have the stamina for it.
I respect your beliefs and their value to you. All I ask is that you respect mine (or lack thereof) and we can still get along great. For example, I am an unrepentant atheist and my best friend is LDS.
