im looking for some grips to put on my poles since im not a fan or the original grips. i have the scott team issue pole in the jr. size so the poles are a bit skinnier. they have a 5/8" diameter and im wondering if anyone knows some nice, cheap grips i could get in that size?
I would just hit up the lost & found or go to a rental shop and offer to buy a pair of poles with grips that are more comfortable. Then you could swap grips and have a backup pair of poles as well.
The problem I see with bike grips would be that they are meant to be used horizontally, as opposed to vertically. By putting a grip that goes like this ---- on a pole that goes like this |, you would have the shaped parts upside down. In other words, where you hold the pole with your pointer finger would be where your pinky usually goes on a bike grip.
and it works fine, just wrap you pole with sport tape so its fat enough to accomodate the desired grip, i know the searchbar sucks, but there have been threads about this in the past with quite good results ...
i searched and couldnt find anything helpful with this shitty searchbar. i was seeing if any bikers or people with past experience know a company with 5/8" grips.
also, i have a friend who has simply removed his grips and now only has the narrow pole with tennis grip tape wrapped around it, he says the narrow grips are sweet to hold when doing grabs and stuff ...
and i dunno about you, but if you don't use your loops a lot it's a sick alternative :)
haha, they kinda look like dildos, but yeah, if they're 5/8'th they'll probably work fine, just put some paper tape around the pole then hammer it in with a wooden/plastic mallet ....
mine arent adult poles, they're the junior that's why i was looking for 5/8" grips. right now im just using the regular grips with hockey tape over them.
The masking tape thing probably works fine, but I have an alternate idea.
A bike grip is a cylinder, a rectangle rolled up. So if you cut a straight line on the long dimension you'll unroll it into a rectangle again. Then you could remove a certain amount of it to create a cylinder that fits around your pole. You could secure it with some epoxy or glue or something. Basically cut it open, make it have a smaller circumference and wrap it back around. Do people do that often? I'm gonna try when I go home for winter break.
