Doctor NS, i need some assistance(burnt leg)

i spilled some boiling water on my leg and it hurts like hell and i have one big blister. My dad told me to put some Vaseline on my leg which i figured out was a bad thing to do. i put it in a cold shower and it still hurts. what should i do??

ice it down and take ibuprofen to reduce swelling, dry, wrap in ace bandage.

water, lots of water, then cool it down with ice, not too cold or you'll get ice burns...
then use flammazine cream or something similar and wrap it in a sterile compress (second degree or more)

depending on the degree and extent of the burn you should see a doctor, also be aware that burns tend to infect much faster than other wounds...

pee on it... no homo.. it will help..   again im not trying to make you piss on your slef,, just piss on the burn and the uric acid helps with the burn./

Vaseline is actually good for a wound. It needs to stay moist and if it dries out it will take A LOT longer to heal and will be A LOT more painful. I found this out the hard way a few months ago...

i read on yahoo answers that it retained the heat on the burn but i washed it off so we'll see. thanks guys

No vaseline, its not good for burns. Don't pop the blister if you can prevent it, leave it in open air till it drains/goes down on its own, then keep the wound it forms clean and covered for a few days. If its a super bad blister you can go to the doctor and maybe get some burn cream, but i wouldn't recommend putting anything OTC on burns.

what ever you do, dont pop the blister!!
also keep an eye out for infection! use neosporin!

depends how long ago you burnt it.

If very recently - i.e. today - keep running it under cold water. throw your leg in the shower and run cold water onto it. Do not ice it, unless the ice is well wrapped in a wet towel. you don't actually want the ice cooling the burn, the ice should cool the water in the wet towel which will cool the burn.

Then you want to dry the surface, apply some antibacterial burn ointment (this will help with pain, prevent it from drying out too much and decrease chance of infection). then cover with a gauze patch and bandage.

If it is a large area or a significantly deep burn, see a doctor.

change the bandage every day if possible. Watch for infection.

further to that. BURNS HURT - this advice won't magically cure the pain, but will help.

take pain relief if necessary, but don't over medicate. burns do hurt, i burnt my face and arms badly a few years back and it was unbelievable.

i heard somewhere that mustard can help, but thats prbly not true if its like an open sore. i would say go with neosporin and put a bandage on it to avoid infection

i had almost the exact burn except i burnt it on the tail pipe of a motorcicle cause i went to touch the seat or something and didnt realize that someone had just turned it off so it was still hot. but thats bedide the point it a second degree burn so just wrap it up and put some burn gell on it and leave it alone the blister will get pretty big but in a week or so it will just pop and it will be better.

my leg looked exactly like the leg posted earlier after a longboard fall and the only thing that got me through the pain was vicodin and keeping vasaline on it. the biggest mistake i made was sleeping with the wound uncovered and my fan on and my leg literally got fused to my bed sheet. i had to soak my leg in hot water then tear the sheet along with part of my leg off. it was horrible.

but yeah, vicodin ES help a lot...

You know how to treat it , but take sleeping pills it helps you sleep through the pain and tommorow it won't hurt as bad.

Don't ice it for too long, you can get worsen the burn from cold burning it. Its a better idea to run cold water over it

I was always taught that putting ice on a burn was a bad thing....

Anyway... the internet has a wealth of information, especially google.

Get answers for your self rather than waiting for some on here.

not for burns. if you put vaseline, cream or butter on burns it makes them worse. ice it with a bag of ice wrapped in a towel.

I'm not the OP. I was showing a leg injury I also had that I covered with Vaseline. Mine is road rash, not a burn.
