Jailbreaking a iPhone

Hey, I was wondering if you jailbreak a iPhone, are you breaking any laws by not having to pay for the apps? Can they even tell? Can they shut down your iPhone like Microsoft did with all the XBOX's last year? Thanks for any information..

yeah dude it's risky, my friend's doing ten years just because apple found out he got touch grind for free. It's your life though man do what you want.

I am not wanting nor am I planning on buying a iPhone. I love my BB but my frined and I are having a dicussion about it and wondering if it is breaking any laws.

They cannot tell, and cannot remotely shut down your phone as far as I know. It is ILLEGAL to download pirated applications and as an IOS developer I would like to encourage you to pay for your applications. By stealing applications you are discouraging developers from further developing for this platform.

i have a jailbroken iphone, and it works fine... ive brought it back to apple for a replacement after i restored it and all and they still honored the warranty, i dont even think they could tell. as far as free apps though, thats kinda dumb. i like to buy the apps and support the people who the time to make em. the main reason i jailbroke is to get tethering and unrestricted 3g... and a couple other tweaks and customizations.

its not illegal, and it makes your iPhone tighter. Its also not illegal to use the 3rd party Cydia apps

Yup. A little while ago supreme court ruled apple and its application developers cannot sue or fine any iPhone/iTouch user for any sort of jailbreaking. I don't think they can track most of that stuff anyways. It's definitely worth all the work.

yeah what an epic day that was. jailbreaking is great, can slow your phone down though if you are running the 2G or 3G

True, I know of 3 ipods (not iphones) that have crashed and had to have been restored/replaced do to jailbreaking.

I jailbroke my iPhone 4 and it was super easy to do compared to jailbreaking my iphone 3G.  Unrestricted 3G and tethering are sweet, plus there's other little tweaks you can do.  If Apple didn't want to be tightwads and not allow what the consumers really want, then people wouldn't need to jailbreak.
