Bene/sammy- much better style didn't backseat like sammy

b-dog/dudemont- im sorry that is not a truckdriver its a dub toe grab, dudemont banged the shit out of that dub 10

elias/paul- Im sorry paul but there is no way in hell you will beat that mute...sooooo sick

shiller/brown- bobby falls

olsson/fredricson- jon could have done a better trick, but still fredrickson fell so all he had to do was land

adural/rolland- kevins was just better thrown...and a 12

PK/andreas- debateable, but andreas's was just a bit better

sherlin/wester- oscar just didn't cut it

bene/dudemont- dudemont eats shit

elias/tj- Tj does the splits...looks painful

Yeah.. that 's as flat as they come, he was just spinning too fast so he stopped it with a slight spread. There's some crazy exaggeration going on here, I was expecting some spread eagle shit but that was just a slight correction.

andreas hatveit must be the stuppiest guy ever, i mean he tried dub cork 12 vs a shitty no grabbed dub cork 10.. i mean andreas is like 99% sure on dub 10 dobbel mute or something and he tries a trick i've almost never seen he do. and switch 14 in bronze final was a no brainer.

and the trick kevin rolland did in the final.. isnt that called a lincon (loop)?

so much stupidity in this thread.  almost none of you understand the rules of the competition, so you cant bitch about rolland doing a flat 3 as his final hit.  thats kinda sick anyways though, considering a flat 3 is a stylish trick.  He simply needed to land a trick to win. 

that being said, the final round should have been b-dog vs. b-paul.  no questions.

So... to recap the thread:

Guy does a trick where his hips do not once, even for a second, go above his shoulders.... kids call it a backflip.

Then they bitch that KOS is a double and spin fest, and "it's supposed to be about style" etc etc.

Somehow it never dawns on them that when Kevin, due to the format, gets given an opportunity to do whatever he wants..... he chooses to do a flat three instead of hucking another double (ie; he goes for style instead of difficulty), once again, everyone cries about that.

What a bunch of whiny bitches.

i think people complaining about rolland's flat 3 are just jumping on a hatewagon but to be perfectly fair, it was not a sick trick or anything. you see that trick everywhere and done by everybody, and if the most stylish trick he has in his bag (even as a safety hit) is a sketchy flat 3 japan, that's wack.

as far as judging goes, i think the main problems were in the prelims. so many steezy ass technical tricks were thrown in prelims and practice, wally world's nolly misty bit was pretty gangster and tech plus an ultra stomped and ultra flat 9 mute, then kim boberg motionless rodeos and a rodeo 9 blunt should have advanced if only to give the comp some fucking variety for once.

it terms of complaining about KoS for being a huckfest, its always been a huckfest. but everyone that's saying ohhh well duhhh a dub 10 beats whatever styley trick because its harder... that's just not always going to be true. there are LOTS of single-flipping rotation patterns that are harder to execute than double corks. i don't give a fuck if b-dogs cab 9 was a boot grab or a toe grab or an ass grab, that weird spin where his head is leading at switch 3 and then his feet are leading at switch 7 then he still lands cab 9 perfect should be blowing everybody's mind. that is a tech trick with mad style and dumonts cookie-cutter dub 10 hasn't been innovative since PK hunder did it 3 years ago.

From what I saw in this summer edits, a lot of 15 years old can do dub cork 10 that look just like the one dumont did.

Yet I never saw anybody do a fakie nine truckdriver like the one phil did.

And yes it is a truckdriver, he did grab both skis  right in front of his bindings.

You dont have to look like your doing a yoga stretch to do one. 
Just like a mute grab is a mute grab no matter how hard you tweak it, it's just a different style in your grab.

And there is no way you can blame kevin for winning, he got a little lucky with the format and  even tho his dub 10-12 are not my favorite, he puttted them to his feet when the other riders crashed.

I dont like battle format.

normally i'd agree with you, but in this case i really thought dumonts dub was particularly sick, and phil c's wasn't really anything special, especially for him. just cause it's phil, doesn't mean everything he does is inherently steezier and better than everyone elses.

Comps are not the place for progression of style imo (sure tricks will start looking better after a while). Videos are the place for progression of style.
It would be nice to see a comp focused on style, but that will never happen because peoples opinions are different and will still be bitched about as much as KOS is now. I am fine seeing new sometimes sloppy looking tricks being thrown in comps because that is how newer tricks are "invented" and pretty soon everyone is doing them and eventually they look good.

King of Style is just a missleading name and somehow a lot of people on this site have not figured it out yet.

Bene Mayer's trick in the quarters was sick, Pk Hunder's first trick was also sick. Elias Ambuhl's trick in the semis was cool too. But The last round shouldn't be like that. Cause if you're up first and fall then your opponent can try a much easier trick and still take the win. He wouldn't have to risk trying to land something really hard cause he knows you don't have a second chance.

To me, that format would suit competition that was focused on like the ultimate champion or something. Like skiers going head to head to find out who can do the hardest tricks round after round.

Not a competition labled: King of Style.

Naw I've seen plenty of kids stomp sick 9's, switch 9s/10s with plenty of style, none of them could do a dub 10/12. Dumont deserved to beat phil, and I am even biased considering phil is one of my favorite skiers.

As for the format, yea it dumb, for that to work each rider should be given 2 runs at least.

I think that Jon should have beat rolland. Unless I'm mistaken, he pulled a dub 10 truckdriver and stomped it. Close call on that one though, as kevin stomped his dub 12 as well.

What point did I miss? I think you guys are all missing the point that this competition is mislabeled, as it's not truly a "style" competition. Best trick should win, and Dumont's dub 10 encompassed more difficulty/style, then Phil's sw 9.

To put it in retrospect,a sw 9 which has been done god knows how many years ago would need to have something completely unique about it to beat a dub 10, which is a much more difficult trick. A sw 9 truck doesn't mean those requirements, esp one with a back seat landing.

Don't be ignorant and think that just because "style" is in the title of the competition that it's going to be any different from any other competition. They all use same grading criteria to formulate a score, so unless that criteria changes significantly, don't expect a sw 9 to be a stomped dub 10.

After watching the vid, I noticed that Bene Mayr is fucking sick. Never heard of him before this, so big ups to him. As for the winning trick, it was definitely a flat 3. just pause it at 4:00 in the vid.

phil's switch 9 was different. never seen anyone do one like that. that axis was unique.
i've seen at least 100 better double 10s than simon's. not to mention that half of them were in this contest (hell everyone was doing them)

that's the point. to stand out in the crowd and not be a clone.

but this is too much to hope for in a contest. i don't understand why you guys are arguing about this, it's pretty dumb.

PHIL CASABON WILL NEVER WIN A JUMP COMP this event was no different

And kevin rolland had the most stylish trick IN MY OPINION, and that right there is why you cant judge a comp on style.

omg kids, i don't get this drama!
for example b-paul vs elisa...elias goes so much higher and further down the landing  (his best trick of the night) stomps it super clean compared to b-paul with a sick trick but not the same dimension and he lands with a little sit back. (and it was tail, not blunt)
also b-dog sits back when he does that dope sw9 truck no more discussion needed!
ye the comps name is king of STYLE, but it's like this since hum, 4 years? so if u realized now that it's just another city comp, ur just pretty much not so clever!
and btw: style is some kind of personal view, sometimers u like a skiers style sometimes not sometimes u don't know why, it's just like this! (i don't like like kevins style,but he made it through and deserve the win)
BUT in a city comp when u think about style in general -> long grabs, no extra movements + clean landing (no afterbang needed) and b-dog and b-paul both  had a backseat landing!

That is NOT a flatspin! Watch Harlauts flat three's, or Eric Pollars flat threes! that there my friend is a FLIP, NOT A SPIN! It is a crooked/skewed backflip, watch how he throws himself out of the takeoff. He throws himself backwards, tilts his head, overrotates and sketches, and ends up winning,

Fair enough, f*** the hate about the comp name, who cares, but the format is so stupid. Pure randomeness choses which of the skiiers drop first. It is compelely gay that Elias has to jump first, throwing out a sick trick (falling, after killing it on all the other hits), and Kevin can win with his sketched out backflip.  Same as in the octofinals, where Fridtjof, the most stylish kid out there, tweaks of his ski, and since pure randomness made him jump first, Jon Olsson who, in contrast to Fridtjof, has not put a single dubb to his feet all practice qualifies with a 3.

In a comp like this, all riders should be juged on the same criteria, and it is stupid and retarded when pure randomness lets Kevin win with a crooked backflip!

Go through that trick frame by frame. Not once do his hips go above his shoulders. If you think that someone can do a "FLIP" without their hips ever going above their shoulders, you might want to consider having your head examined.

PROPS to Keving Rolland. Not only does he throw the best pipe run of all time at X, blowing 'PROS' out of the water, but he wins a comp like this beating out Ambuhl.

It is getting so fucking old to see so many NS kids, jumping on the bandwagon saying he shouldn't have won and calling him out ("rich ass academy skier") etc. WE GET IT KIDS, he doesn't listen to Wu Tang or flap his hands around in edits like some spastic, therefore lets HATE HATE HATE, plus hes French, so he deserves it right??? This is despite everyone hating on 'dub fests' ... yet when a grabbed flat 3 is thrown and wins, everyone hates even harder./Rant

Anyway well done to Kevin . Hopefully KOS changes it's format to two runs in future so that we can see more doubles being thrown ...
