Question on Getting/Cutting Climbing skins

recently i picked up a pair of 2009 k2 hellbent 189's. and i got a pair of dukes so i would have some more elevation on the ski so i could get it on edge a little easier. but i also wanted the capability of being able to use that touring mode. So i need skis, but the problem is im not sure exactly what i need. I know k2 has the new hellbent with skins, but i cant use those because the way they are secured wont work for mine because i dont have holes in the tips or tails and the width underfoot is about 10mm wider then mine are. another issue i am having is finding the right length. apparently the k2 hellbent 189's are a couple cm longer then they actually are. i haven't measured them yet, but when i do, say they are 195cm, what size skins should i get for them? also i know you can cut skins to size, and i can look up how to do that. but could i just get skins that are about 110 underfoot, or do the skins have to be the same width as the ski? finally when it comes to holding them on the tips and tails. i know that g3 makes a twin tip skin clip, but does anyone know what the best ones are for the best deal or what my best bet would be? thanks guys. +k for bumps and help

Yo I have 2009 rossi S3's 177 they are 98 underfoot and 127 at the tip. So I bought G3 climbing skins 171-181 in length and 130 in width to cover the tip. They come with a trimming tool and its super easy. The skins I got arnt the twin tip ones so I just put the strap on the back like a regular ski and duck taped it. On the box for the skins it has all the diferent size measurments to fit the ski and evrything is pretty much fool proof.

Oh ya and you dont have to have the skins the same width as the ski. It depends how steep your terain is. If its steep you want more skin surface on your ski, if its not so steep you want less. Just think of the perfect balance for you.

And on the box for my skins it says you can get X-long 189-199 and 140 in width is the biggest!

go to you tube you will find a video that will help you out more than any amount of writing on ns.com on doing your skins right.

the size is totally adjustable by you, just find some that are about the right size of your fattest dimension and length.

there is no reason not to try to get skins that cover most of your ski, the best way is to have just your edges hanging out from the skin so when its hardpack skin track you dont slide off the mountain.

since the HBs are so wide, look into a split skin like the BD ascension Split. theres nylon in the middle, with the skin material along the ski edge, where you need it most. theyre designed for fat skis. the key with skins is to have the most coverage possible, ideally complete coverage minus your edges
