It blows my mind, that people are getting so upset about this. They're finished up MILLIONS of dollars in improvements, and didn't get done when they wanted. Shit happens.

I'm sure that some of you are from the Midwest/East coast on here. Remember when you were there, a Dec. 10 opening date would be awesome. And that usually involved a patch of snow with a couple rails, and maybe a white ribbon of death from the top of the chair, and all 400' down to the bottom.

I just can't believe that people are SO spoiled out here, that they can demand pass refunds and The Canyons buys them tickets to other resorts.

Well, first you attempt to install a new chairlift without bothering to check to see if you need any sort of zoning approval to do so. Or maybe you knew about some permitting issues but thought you could just push the construction through and shrug off the permits later. But, you get stopped before you get started because the zoning board turns out to not be psyched on your plans to build an unaproved large structure at the bottom of your new lift.

Why do you need a large new building anyway? Well, the detachable chairs on your new heated-seat bubble lift need to be stored inside or else their doppelmayr warranty will be voided. So you spend most of the summer getting that squared away. Except you dont get it squared away since you cant get the approval to build a shed to house the chairs at night. In the mean time you've already committed yourself to the project so you're kinda forced into just giving up on holding a warranty for your new lift.

So, by late August you start in on construction. It plods along uneventfully, and it even looks like things might be ready to go by T-day. Then November rolls around and, oh boy, here comes winter.

So you're maybe pushing to get things done and you maybe leave this one building that's meant to house a real big compressor engine unroofed for a few days while you wait to get it lifted in. The compressors's certainly not going to fit in through the door, right? And then, so it's turning wintery right? So an especially big gust comes along and flattens all four roofless walls and quite nearly the guys working on it. One concussion and probably some hail marys later and you've got some workers comp claims and a pretty f-ed project schedule to deal with.

Ya this is fucking ridiculous but it's pretty typical for The Canyons to blow it. I'm more pissed about their shitty project planning and waiting until a week before the scheduled opening day to tell everybody that they have to wait another two weeks. Luckily the park crew has nothing to do with the shitty management so I hope they don't fucking blow it too.

I'm with jblaski on this one.  I'm pretty sure not a single one of you has the slightest clue on how to run, maintain, and upgrade a ski resort.  Be patient, go earn some turns in the mean time, and be happy that you have snow.  There is no such thing where I'm at right now.

Did you read s'yellav post? They screwed the pooch big time. If I hear one more person pipe up who isn't from here and say "earn some turns" Im gonna.... well, nothing. Just shut the fuck up, we've been earning turns for the past month. Im not even super bent about opening getting pushed back. Its the fact that Canyons was fully aware they wouldn't be able to open, and waited until yesterday to say anything about. No apologies or anything. And they managed to fuck up their new snowmaking system as icing on the cake.

We are allowed to be pissed. I dont care how late other places around the country open, i moved to salt fucking lake. Everyone else is shredding PC or brighton when im stuck in SLC not able to drop cash on a day pass. Why the fuck did i let someone convince me canyons was the place to go? Im so aggravated.

Are season passes refundable? Is it too late to back out and go to PC?

i'm gonna be up in park city a lot this week, i'll probably end up stopping by there tomorrow and bitching at them and seeing what they can do about this situation. hate to be that asshole disgruntled customer but brighton snowbird and solitude opened 4 weeks earlier then them. park city and alta opened 3 weeks before them. i bought a pass thinking they were opening the 22nd, then the 26th, now moving it back 2 and a half weeks later than that when 75 percent of my friends are going to be lapping lifts every one of those days is fucked. i would have spent my money elsewhere if i knew i had to earn turns for an additional 3 weeks or sit on my couch in the valley.

you get two with your pass to begin with and then they are giving us two additional passes for the delayed opening. the park crew facebook confirmed it. but yeah it sucks they dropped the ball on their opening date. im glad i got a pc pass too.

im just confused as to how two day passes to the canyons are supposed to help me not skiing for the month the other resorts are open. im not gonna refund my pass because i only paid $350 for it and that wont come close to paying for another pass after the cutoff dates.

So the shred at the canyons has been alright so far, they had some good pow on opening day, but does anyone know about when the full park is expected to be completed/open? right now they just have a couple jibs up but has anyone heard anything about jumps and whatnot? I heard that it's gonna take forever for jumps because they are putting them on a new hill and they have to do all sorts of mathematics to figure it out, like slope angles and what not. anyone else know what's up?

they said they are focusing their snowmaking on the lower runs so we dont have to take the gondola back down to the village. after those runs are open they are going to move the snowmaking to the park for jumps.

Docs opened on Friday. They need a bit more snow there, then they'll blow on Kokapelli to get ski school off of Snow Dancer. Then its our turn. This storm dropped way more than I was expecting, so hopefully that expedites the proccess a bit. Check the terrain park's FB page, they keep it pretty updated.

the storm was fantastic. monday and tuesday were honestly some of the best days of my life, I was getting face blasters til like, 2 pm and I was up there at 9 on the dot. 9990 was incredible. I wish I would've had my SKDYxSurface live lifes to enjoy all the pow with though... I guess my old watch life's pulled through alright.

about the park, they put in a couple new features, a nice big down rail and some other stuff, I didn't get a close look because I haven't touch the park at all this week, once the storm passes and the snow gets sucky I'll start lapping.

They built a jump, but it looks fucking horrible. 25ft gap to 10ft landing, saw some snowboarder haul ass into it and knuckle.

I went to the canyons today for my first time this season. I was not impressed at all with the park setup or its location. Pretty huge fail on their part.

It's not the park crews fault at all. Unfortunately with the new management the park kinda got fucked up. They are doing the best for what they're working with, but it definitely is not up to par with PC. It's got to be a bitch not having support from upper management. With that said I still think this years park right now is better than it was the same time last year.

Anyone else wishing they'd at least make the lip of the second jump a bit more poppy? Corked rotations are a bit of a struggle to get off it, and even when you do it looks forced. Anyone else feel like it's a little flat?
