Why do you make your pictures?

Recently I've been asked a lot "Why do you take the pictures you take", "What stops you to take a picture like this", and "What do you want to shoot"

I'm struggling with this a lot. I just see what I see, and shoot it. I understand a lot of people are going to think it's shit, but I still get excited about it, and I don't know why.

So NS, gettin deep here, why do YOU take the pictures that you do?

i enjoy the end results, and even though it might be frustrating, the process too. I need a zoom lens.

Because I am not remotely artistic in any other way and I enjoy making what I do look cooler than it actually is. Haha

Because I do. There isn't really a meaning to my madness. I see something that might make a cool shot and take a picture. Most of the time it turns out well...

you were probably asked this by someone who considers themselves an artist right? I fucking hate artists lol. there doesnt need to be a deep sentimental importance to every picture, or a style which you want to acheive your whole life. Most normal people take pictures to capture simply an estheticaly beautifull moment. not capture an ideal of life or beauty in a moment in time or some hippy shit like that. yes there are some who shoot like that but its not a bad thing to just want to take a nice picture like those people want us to beleive.

I take photographs because they're fun and because i enjoy the medium. Even the most professional shots fun to look at and fun to be a part of, plus, There's something rather spectacular about making an image that captures that specific feeling that you wanted to capture. Whether it be a crossed processed shot from a beautiful day at the beach, or that tac-sharp softbox lit set of portraits you've been working on.

^and in agreement with above me. I hate "artists" because no matter how much you justify your own work they still act like you have no idea what you're doing. Hell, i was walking around with my hassie last week and this guy came up to me and started quizing me on the fucking kent state shootings, asking if i knew about it and the photographs that were made that day. After i responded that i knew the shots he went on a speal about some mumbo jumbo about technical crap i already knew about.

I don't think you hate artists, but more the people who need to put a meaning to others works. Which there must be a word for but right now nothing comes to mind.

Or your definition of an 'artist' is really shady...

Yeah it was. And I'm completely in agreement that people take some pictures solely for the purpose of being beautiful pictures. I just thought it was really interesting and wanted to see other peoples reasons for why they decide to click the shutter at that moment.

It can be different for everyone. I wasn't looking for this thread to be a "rip on fine art/artists thread"

In an odd way, I often times see the world through a photograph. I'll be walking, and even if I don't have my camera, I'll look and say "if I have my camera at this angle, it'll look sick". I often times set a GPS bookmark, and come back later.

Its a weird thing, but I love it.

my bad, it was a bit of a rant but at the same time to help people be realistic and not say bullshit reasons because they are profound and make you sound artsy. I hate artsy people, not artists
