Doesn't seem like a very versatile stop light. Why don't they just put timers or a clock on them you can see. Its also not that hard now a days to determine when the light will change. Just pay attention to the cars in the on-coming lane.

especially since the timing constantly changes (if the button is pushed for walkers, if there are no cars currently waiting at a red light)

I've seen ones with timers in thailand and china, and they tried it somewhere and the statistics said that it just increased speeding cause ppl were trying to get trough under the green light seeing it was about to go red. I'd be happy with those tough

that's why there is the animation (i assume) so regardless of colour you can tell by the "sand"

the green one depeltes just like the red one does. there'd be no way to tell the difference between them, other than by the color.

no reason to change what they are right now. if you really need to know when it's almost your time to go, wait for the flashing hand to warn pedestrians the light is about to change

plus, if we were to give people a countdown, people would just start timing shit for cutting people off and trying to hit the light just as it changes without slowing down, that kind of thing
