Had this in regionals and didn't get a view in a half hour, so I figured I'd try here....I'm looking for a cheap trip out west December 19th-22nd, and have it narrowed down to A-Basin and Loveland. I've been to
A-Basin, but not Loveland. I was wondering how the tree skiing is at
Loveland compared to A-Basin. I know A-Basins tree cover is pretty sparse. Also, who has the better park. Thanks, and any
further input is welcome and encouraged.
I'll be out in December, not Noevember, so I'm not too concerned with % of acreage open, but moreso with amount of stuff to ski while we're there. We're going to be there for 4 days, I want the place with the most terrain and terrain variety......ya know?
I have always been a fan of skiers left side of A-Basin, steep aggressive terrain with some trees. Some decent drops here and there. Have nice nice hikables on the opposite side of the hill.
Loveland is going to be more diverse as it's bigger, and will most likely have a better larger terrain park then A Basin.
Why not go to both? They are pretty close to one another.
Broke college kid.......I think the 4 pack for Loveland is a pretty solid deal @ $119, it's transferable too, so we could easily divide up the cost to make a 4, 3 day passes out of 3, 4 packs, and save the last day for a bigger resort like Breck, Keystone, Vail, or Beaver Creek.
yeah when I go out there I always visit both. But I'm now more partial to loveland cause i have to rent skis (my disorderlys won't work too well plus i'm not bringing them from NJ) and they rent good skis, I used some icelantic shamans. At a basin I had some really tiny, chattery rental skis that were slow edge to edge and made skiing less fun.
You could also try copper or winter park and get some1 with a season pass to get a buddy pass. i think they are 55 bucks. beats paying the 90 bucks at the window
keeping prices to a minimum, it's gonna be a fun road trip. We're looking at $300 each (4 of us) for 4 days of skiing, lodging and gas from driving from Illinois.
Both are sweet, and you are a fool if you ski one for 3 days and not the other, even if you are on a budget since they both have cheap lift tickets and deals.
At copper or winter park I've used this scheme several times. Find an employee walking around and offer them $20 to buy you some passes at their "buddy" rates. Last time I was up at Jane it was $35ish for employee discount passes, and we pulled that scam for 4 straight days, and only had to drop a $20 once for the favor.
