Some people over emphasize the womp, others focus on big beat drops, and theres all that cool little fluff in the middle. I like certain artists that are able to blend all of these into something thats not just a simple beat repeated over and over again. If you find a good artist that is ready to follow the flow of the crowd (true in all music), then you usually have no choice but to have a good time.
I saw Pretty Lights (includes dubstep elements) on November 6th, and while the crowd was going nuts, it didn't feel personal at some points. The encore felt canned, and once he was done with that, he just left the crowd wanting more. A true artist would have listened to the crowd and played more, because kids were really were going nuts.
