Replying to Answer to hemlet questions

This is for everyone that keeps asking what helmet to get.There are a couple things to keep in mind when buying a helmet.

1. The fit.
Obviously you want the helmet to fit somewhat snug, and not so tight that it cuts of the circulation to your brain but not so lose that it rides on the back of your neck. If you wear your goggles and a hat underneath your helmet, TRY THE HELMET ON WITH THESE ON YOUR HEAD. If you try on a helmet without your hat/goggles then it could seem like it would fit fine, but then once you wear it skiing, it could be tight and uncomfortable. Just because you had a medium last year doesnt mean you need a large this year. For all you know you could need an extra large or if the medium was to big, a small. Ask the people at the store, because they probably now best.
The wiggle test is a great way to tell if a helmet is to big. Put the helmet on and have someone hold the helmet still while you wiggle your head. If your head moves a lot the helmet is probably to big.

2. Weight.
Some helmets are very heavy and bulky. If you race or something like this, you may want to consider more of a heavy duty helmet, with a little more weight. If you ride the park/ backcountry, there are many helmets that are made to be light weight and stylish. The smith maze for example is less than a pound and when its on my head i can barely feel it. Burn is another decent company. With burn and smith the padding can be taken out of the insides for those of you who wear hats and goggles underneath your helmets.

3. Style.
There are many different style helmets. When getting a helmet you want to decide whether you want the ears covered of if you want them uncovered. You will have to decide if you want vents or no vents. These are all personal opinions and i suggest having opening and closing vents, just because on those hot days it helps cool down you head. Also the color, all your choice

4. Price.
Ok, honestly you should not be paying more than 150 dollars for a good helmet. I have a smith maze and that was 100 dollars. It is a fantastic helmet. Very comfortable and stylish, and also very light. Most helmets I would say are in the 60 to 100 dollar range. In my opinion if you are paying more than 150 dollars for a helmet then its probably a rip off or and wicked incredible helmet.
