Need a fresh paper topic

So this is for a core Geopolitical Sciences course, and naturally there are about 500 people writing about blood diamonds or Iraq.  If someone can point me in the direction of something new that I didn't think of and that likely won't be done 100 times over, I would appreciate the help.  I want something I can learn from, and I'm not in a big rush.  Here is the prompt, just a simple 4-6 pager:

"In this paper, you will analyze a current critical geopolitical issue, applying both geoscience and political science tools and principles.  Note the issue must go beyond a single state and have impact on the international system."

Paper should include both political and geographical analysis and must be a current issue.  Could have started 10 years ago or something, but must still be an active issue.

Thanks to anyone who can save me from writing about something boring.

That would be good, not sure about the geography piece of it though.  Hmmm...also looking into the Canadian pipeline thing but it has to be on an international scale....I think I remember reading something about several nations battling to land claims in the Artic Circle.  Maybe that will work, what else folks?

Write about mountaintop removal techniques being used in the Appalachian Mountains and how they are cutting clear-cutting mountains, dynamiting 300 vertical feet off the top of the mountain, and then hollowing it out for coal.

Or you could talk about the disappearance of the Madagascar rain-forest and the deforestation that has consumed the entire island.

Ya my response was misleading I guess.  I was kind of thinking out loud as to how I would incorporate geography into the issue.  This is in my top 2 now.

china/taiwan conflict with the question of weather taiwan will become an independent nation/ who already recognizes them as separate from china. long history and is still very relevant today so no prob getting 6 pages on it
